Who on here is talking about being improved? I think you’re just gaslighting. Everything I’ve read has been doom and gloom the entire offseason
Not on here. I think most of us are reasonable with the exception of the typical few sheep.

I would think he’s talking about the MSU mouthpieces crowing about our SEC size, new DL and mystery portal OL.

I don't think they're world beaters by any means; I don't think anyone does. But we're not good.

Southern Miss beating State is a coup for them. For us, nothing but downside.

To me there’s just a difference in being fired up to play us and actually being able to win.

I don’t think it’s impossible they win. I was in the building for both Maine and Toledo, one of which was less than a year ago. I have seen some crap.

Just gonna have to see it to believed it with USM in this era. They are 14-35 since 2021, and three of those seasons were 3-9 or worse…. In the Sun Belt and C-USA.

I get the in-state rivalry part of it and I know they have an interesting new coach and some interesting transfers. But they have been the south’s version of UMass and Akron in recent years. If you lose this game then you make the whole coaching staff and team walk back from Hattiesburg.

I don't disagree with anything you've said. I just think the likelihood that we bottomed out last year is low. I was listening to the Cover 3 Podcast and they were doing each team's total wins for gambling purposes. One of the guys said that an SEC coach admitted that his team took their foot off of the gas against us and implied that other teams did as well. I think we're going to have to prove that we're not a world apart from the other SEC schools in this new paradigm. I don't have the answer to that yet.

Honestly, the USM game scares even the Devil for many reasons, with the biggest to me being that Charles Huff is a better coach than Lebby. I just hate the idea of playing in Hattiesburg, but so be it. I do not think we will lose this game, but it could happen very easily. I also hate this game because it really is a one and done. If you lose it, then the fanbase is gone, and Lebs is the ultimate lame duck.

Oh yeah that clearly happened last year. Georgia was controlling us in the first half and then phoned it in. Others didn’t really show up until the middle of the game and then pulled away.

That’s all true and expectations are very much low for us this year…. And even so, we are almost a two touchdown favorite on the road next weekend. That says as much about USM as it does us, IMO.

Bingo. We won our first game easily last year, but it was very obvious there were serious areas of concern.
Yes it was obvious that the DL was going to get pushed around after the first game but I guess I'm the only one who felt that the defensive scheme for the OM game was actually quite good and even with the vast talent difference, the defensive plan was what kept the game close well into the fourth quarter....

it Appears to me that the offense will be run heavy in an attempt to shorten games ......the defense seems to be improved on the DL and the linebackers and back end seem to be the strength of the defense...if the improved run game can keep the defense off the field can see six wins...

Mostly agree. Not sold on our defensive tackles (can’t be as bad as last year though) but we definitely upgraded at DE & LB. Likely worse at CB & same at safety. Overall should be a bit better defensively, but still bad.
