I received an email saying that due to moving the left field fence in that a few spots would need to be rearranged. Anybody know how far it was brought in? Also said there will be other changes this year and was also wondering what those might be. I've heard that there will be no more drive in/out passes.

Sorry if this has already been discussed.

I've heard the same...

Doubt that yours will be affected, but I would like to know the 'rearrangements' they speak of. Also, will we finally have some type of home field advantage in hitting? Did he pull this same stunt at Kentucky? Thankfully, we have some pitching to counter this move.

Didn't have to. UK's stadium is a complete bandbox. The Dude is one of the 2-3 biggest fields in the SEC, along with Swayze in Oxford. You hit one outta either place, you earned it.

Is it a hitting advantage? The visiting team gets the same amount of swings and outs as we do and therefore same opportunity to hit them out as we do. When you tailor the lineup with small ball type hitters as we have done in the recent past it doesn't come into play as much either. I know you play a larger # of games @ home but the fact remains the other team gets the same amount of cuts. Wes Rea was supposed to be our HR threat and you could move the fence to just behind the infield dirt and until he learns to hit a curve it won't matter.

They brought the corners in about 8' to 10' and they tie back in with the old fence between the alleys and center.

Meeting is @ 1730 - 17 December 2012 in the Griffis Board Room at the Palmeiro center. Moving the fences in was done largely to increase emergency vehicle access to the LFL, probably as a move toward complying with PEER study recommendations several years ago. Unofficial word has it that they trailers to the west of the bathrooms in left field area have to be repositioned somewhere. Also, in-and-out passes are supposedly being eliminated, much in response to the access problems that occur because too many additional passes have been sold over time, and the area for parking has been reduced due to the construction activities, mainly the football office and practice support complex.

From what I saw this fall, moving the fences in from the left field foul pole to center field did not significantly impact home run production. Goes back to the old argument - home runs are a function of hitting a mistakenly thrown or located pitch, not the distance (within reason) to the fence. The shorter porch in left field will help us somewhat defensively, however, although right now we may not need that much help because we have pitchers that can locate down in the zone and move their pitches around to keep hitters off balance. That may change if we lose Coach Thompson to a head-coaching postion in the next year or two.
