Pope has killed the offseason this one hurts a little

Nah. If it hurts, it hurts IUse2Be fans, a program that could have had Dusty May -- and I assume Lendeborg -- for the asking two years ago, but stuck with Woodson a year too long, missed the NCAA tournament again for the 11th time in 17 years, and then settled for the SECOND best recent Drake coach, letting Ben McCollum go to Iowa and taking a guy in DeVries who ALSO missed the tournament at WVU...

After hearing Pope on KSR I no longer feel this way. Sometimes we may miss on a guy but sometimes it is that we don't want them because they are just about themselves and do not have the same goals that we do. He even said there were guys this year where that was the case and we told them no thanks and moved on.

I do think Pope has missed on the super superstars in general but it’s also hard to get quality depth to come sit behind guys that are locked into huge minutes.

The money is just more for these guys in college which is absolutely wild. It’s like a AAA team outbidding the MLB for a player. Just feels weird!

The issue is the more guys ahead of him who pull out increases his chance of being drafted. So them coming back could be a double negative for us.

Probably right. Uzan, Knox, Fland, and Lendenborg would all have been in front of him. I think for these guys and Oweh, too, is that the end of the 2nd round money/playing guarantee isn't good enough anymore to beat out playing in college and the NIL.

This makes sense. Plus you have to think the whole point of any team giving any player a second-round guarantee is they want to convince that kid to stay in the draft and reduce that team’s chances of getting stuck with a second-round pick and no one good to use it on. The more upper echelon kids drop out, the more I could see NBA teams being willing to make that move to cover their bases.

I still hope he comes back. I still think it would be better for him and for us.

It hurts a whole way lot less with Jayden Quaintance on our roster. Wouldn’t have minded Yaxel one bit but we’ll be fine in the front court.
Yea I would take a healthy Yaxel over an injured JQ if we only have them for one season anyway. But glad to have JQ and hope he gets healthy.

This guy and Fland returning has really surprised me. Oweh has to return now, right?
This is why he hasn’t withdrew. First rounders are dropping out. Oweh will be drafted even if it’s second round. He obviously wants to go pro if possible. I say this in a matter of fact way because I am hoping yall prove me wrong. Then we all win lol

I’m pretty sure he’ll be fully healthy for us. Recent breakthroughs in our understanding of mTOR have really revolutionized rehab science and practice the past few years. With proper management and scheduling total recovery can take a small fraction of what was considered possible until recently. And I’m assuming he’s working with the best sports doctors money can buy.

I hate saying it but I’d trade any TWO guys in our frontcourt for Yaxel. He’s the missing superstar this team needs.

This may sound crazy, I watch a ton of college basketball and follow it very closely but prior to the portal list coming out, I had never heard of Yaxel Lendeborg.

It seems we’re sleeping on Garrison. BG will be a better player than Lendenborg next season. That’s right.
