Let me get this straight

We are supposed to fire one of only two coaches in 115 years of msu football history with more than 30 wins and a winning record? Let him go when we are 3-3 after 3 straight winning seasons? Terminate the coach that is 3-1 against our rival? I know we didn't play well tonight. Reality is that the 3 teams we lost to are a combined 17-3. The immaturity of some on this board is embarrassing.

I'm not on the "fire merlinz" bandwagon yet, but if you can tell me with a straight face you aren't concerned about this, you're lying:

Second half points this year:
Oky State - 0
Alcorn State - 14
Auburn - 7
Troy - 17
LSU - 3
BGSU - 0

Add those up and divide by the total number of points scored this season (183) and you get a whopping 22.4%. Less than 1/4 of our points scored THIS SEASON have been in the second half. That is beyond concerning. Take away Troy and Alcorn (our two biggest wins) and that number drops to 14.2%. That is absolutely pathetic. The only thing we know how to do in the second half is to sit back on defense (and get lucky basically) and run the damn read option over and over and hope by the end of the game we have more points than the other guy. That's exactly what happened tonight (and Auburn, LSU, UF in '10... need I keep going?).

The worst part is that they seem completely oblivious to

the obvious result if we fire Mullen - that we wind up with someone even worse (like UT did with Dooley) and go 3-9 3 years in a row.

Very good point. I think it goes to play calling. So much more dynamic in the first half of games and they go into shell mode in the second half. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. You got to keep the pedal down.

OH GOD...not the "We can't get anyone better" cry.

Thank god people didnt say this when Croom was coach.

How the hell we any of us know if our next hire is better or not? If you're right, why would ever fire any coach...ever?

This is the first post that actually has me worried. I can deal with the Secondary sucking, unlike most people, I figured we weren't gonna plug in "All-SEC" corners after losing two to the draft. I can't handle not being able to stop a 17'n counter play. But that can be fixed. But our second half scoring is deplorable, we are not going to beat Ark and OM if this **** isn't cleaned up. Also Hevesy needs to be shown the door, and in a really blunt publicly humiliating way. Just don't ask me to do it because he could beat the **** out of me.

Almost tweeted this, but in basketball we called it the Stansbury Stall. What's the football term? Mullen Malaise?

It's people like you that will never allow this program to progress. If any other coach in the SEC put a product this ****** on the field he would be gone.

You've got it wrong

The "we can't do better" is crap when we have a bad, or at least failing coach. Mullen misses a bowl this year and next? Get rid of him. As of now, he's one of the best coaches we have ever had.

Croom is an awful comparison. He was terrible from the start.

We sent Crxxms sorry *** packing one year after he won SEC COTY. You strike while the iron is hot. Not when you go 0-8 in conference for one or more years. You improve your odds of getting a better coach if it appears he doesn't have as much work to do.

Let's deal in reality. In the 3 games you mentioned we had 39 pass plays called and 47 running plays in the 2nd half of those games. Its called balance. You can throw out the troy and alcorn 2nd halfs. We could have scored 30 more points in those games if we left the starters in.

Oh like Florida, who is averaging 25 points a game?

It really is comical that people want to fire Mullen.

And for cheewgumm, people weren't worried about it with Croom because we had 1 winning season in 5 years. With Mullen we have had 3 winning seasons in a row. What the hell more do you want?

We have too many "know your role" fans.

To them, we are building...we will win 7 or 8 next year becuase our schedule gets a lot better and so all will be well. so, Mullen just needs to get through this year and he'll be here for minimum 3 more. I'm not even really saying get rid of him, though it should be thought about.

Name one school

That fired one of their best coaches in school history after less than two winning seasons, and got a better coach.

What does this even have to do with anything? I showed you reality... the numbers INCLUDING Troy and Alcorn are still absolutely pathetic. With or without starters, I don't give a ****... we are not making ANY halftime adjustments. We come out of the locker room playing lethargic, uninspired, LAZY *** FOOTBALL in the second half. The numbers back up my statement 100%.

Florida is competitive in every game they play regardless of opponent. Only teams we can beast soundly are SWAC and Sunbelt teams and we couldn't even do that last year. Let this sink in for a second. Mullen's crowning win this year will be against Bowling Green. Because we sure as hell won't beat anyone else that isn't considered at least our equal.

Tubberville had a higher winning % than Chizik

Tubberville won the west 5 times, including 1 undefeated season.

on top of that, would you call Chizik a better coach?

Am I happy with going to three bowl games in a row? You're dang right I am. Why are you upset with that? Was I disappointed with tonight? Absolutely. But guess what, we won the game.

Crooms winning the SEC COTY

was THE biggest farce ever and using it to prove a point does zero good.

First of all, that 2010 Georgia team was garbage. Finished the year with a 6-7 record. Florida finished that season with an 8-5 record. Secondly, I think everyone can see we've regressed since 2010. Will Dan ever beat a team he's not supposed to beat ever again?

You don't seem to understand what he was saying

We intentionally pulled our foot off the gas in those 2 games. You can also pretty much discount the OSU game - we were equally ****** in both halves.

Your point still stands, in the auburn, LSU, and BG games, our 2nd halves were pitiful - I'm not disagreeing with you at all. But those are the only games you should be using here.

i think the writing is on the wall, but i think if we reach 6-6, im willing to give a little slack. im open to anyone voicing their defense as to why mullen is not one of the worst coaches in the conference (bottom 4). mullen is average in a league where average is not acceptable. his average coaching and average recruiting cannot contend with elite coaching and elite talent that we face week in and out in the sec. sure, we dont lose to the troys, la techs, bowling greens, etc, but should that be our measuring stick? some argue no and mullen is clearly on the short end of the stick coaching wise.....then it becomes a thing where one's personal expectations and thoughts on what is and is not acceptable come into play.

I want to see us continually get better year after year since this is now completely Mullen's program. When it matters, we still continue to play with zero passion and zero desire to win (Zero "relentless effort"). Take the second half of the LSU game, the second half of the Oky State game, the Bama game last year, A&M, the Egg Bowl... see where I'm going? We can beat up on Kentucky, Troy, Memphis, and MTSU all we want, but I'm ready to see us take the next step and play our hearts out in a big game, make the right half time adjustments, and go toe to toe for 60 minutes with the best in our league. Hugh Freeze sure led OM to go toe to toe with a very good A&M team tonight. They did last year against LSU and followed that up by beating the **** out of us. Besides Georgia and Auburn '10, and LSU and OM in '09, when have we competed like that?

Ok, so for the record, you think we're right on schedule as a program?

Is that acurate?
