supporter of the billboard campaign that our athletic department has gone on over the past few years....

But those of you on here posting all this garbage about Ole Miss fans and their excitement level after beating our *** last night, you guys need to get a huge dose of 17'ing reality. We've spent the better part of the last 3 years beating Ole Miss at most everything and then rubbing their noses in it.

They won last night and if you didn't expect them to be excited about it, nor come out in full force on message boards, then you've lost your mind.

This dick-measuring competition that's going on today is turrible.

That is all.

They kicked our *** last night and they should be happy about it and they deserve to brag about it. That's what a rivalry is (as Houston Nutt found out over the last 3 years).

it's the way it works. Maybe our "crowd" will actually yell for a play or two when they come to the Hump. It's embarrassing when they have a better atmosphere for BASKETBALL than we do but they sure had one last night.

a long time since they have been able to proudly wear OM gear after a game. I'm sure the state is covered in red and blue today. And rightfully so. I wouldn't dare read the comments in the Clarion Ledger online today. I am sure they are as awful as ever.

We got our arses beat. They should be happy. It happens.

Exactly.
they wanted it more, they worked harder for it, they won it.
Fortunately for us, in basketball, we can redeem ourselves in a few
weeks. Their next chance for redemption in football is in 10 months. They had not beaten us in hoops at their place since 2008, ironically, the last time they beat us in football.

You know how hard that is to do. We will probably win the next five.

And we will beat you again in the Egg Bowl sometime in the not so distant future, will even have a win streak in it at some point. It's the ebb and flow of it all.

If you're the type of fan that likes to trash talk and enjoys giving jabs when you're on the ebb, then you better be the type of fan that's willing to accept the barbs when you're on the flow side of things.

Given the fact that not just your players, coaches, and athletic department, but even the academic side of your university's marketing department has decided to make it a priority to take jabs at TSUN, sometimes subtly, sometimes not so subtly, you can expect more of the same from our fans when we do beat you again in anything.

I've never been a big fan of all the false bravado and rubbing someone's nose in a loss, because success doesn't last forever, and some day you will be on the losing end again. That, and if you do like to rub your opponents' nose in it, you tend to light a little extra fire under your opponent, and I never think that's a good idea. That's why I disagree with Mullen's strategy in trying to turn the rivalry ugly. I think in the long run he's only helping us by forcing our fans and boosters to get off their butts and do something, rather than sitting back and waiting for the glory days to return, like we've been doing for decades.

I took my son (State fan) and my step-son (bear fan). The only obnoxious fan I encountered was my step-son and he deserved to be obnoxious after the **** I've given him the last few years. I was almost glad the bears won one for him. And my son needed to come back down to earth. I had to remind him what being a State fan is all about

Mullen is helping both of our programs. Don't you realize how pathetic Mississippi football in general is compared to our neighboring states? This should push both of our programs to compete against one another much like Alabama and Auburn do. They have success because the 90% of Alabama's population picks a side in the rivalry. By turning the rival "ugly," Mullen has managed to ignite a huge proportion of Mississippians into actually giving a damn.

It's all about getting MSU fans excited and going to the games. He gains nothing by having UM fans hate him. He is making a lot of money because the MSU fans are excited and buying tickets in record numbers. I can take losing the Egg Bowl sometimes as long as our team is prepared and excited. If UM gets their act together and decides to approach the Egg Bowl with the same significance as MSU has for the last 3 years, then I guess we can expect a very exciting football game to end the year.

All that said, Mullen needs to continue to improve as a game day coach. His performance so far with his team near the end zone at the end of a half has been spectacularly unsuccessful (LSU 09, AU 11, UK 11, WF 11, e.g.).

Edited to stay on topic.

Yes!They can call our billboard campaign arrogant. They can hate it. Butthe purpose was not torub their nose in it. Well, maybe the one billboard in Oxford. Even that one I think was about recruitinga particular player. But the "Our State" slogan ismore about saying this is who we are and we are proud. Rather than saying this our state and nobody else's.
