Quick question regarding this statement many of you are making...Are you 17ing retarded? When besides 99 can we say we started out 7-0 sure the past two games have stung but **** get your heads out of your asses old MSU football would be 3-6 or worse right now. I don't understand why the idiocy is so pervasive on this board..17 old MSU football

We have never beaten the teams we were supposed to beat until Mullen came here.

At least not that I can remember. Even in the Kang's good years, he had some inexplicable losses because we relied so much on defense and special teams that we were always susceptible to a bad loss.

I'm worried as hell that of the three teams we've played that could beat us without us giving them help, we basically haven't gotten off the bus for two of them. I'm especially worried that our DC seems Tyrone Nix'ish in his inability to game plan for teams that run an uptempo offense, which makes Arkansas and UM look like cluster 17's waiting to happen.

But if we beat Arkansas and Ole Miss, that means the total games Mullen has lost in four full seasons stands at I think two. (Houston in '09 and Auburn in '11). I think that's something we should be ecstatic about, not something that should have us longing for a new coach.

No doubt about it. Every other team we lost to eventually went on to be a top 15 team since 2010. Most of those were actually top 5 teams when it was all said and done. Despite what they finish in the rankings, TA&M is a top 10 caliber team. We're more like a top 30 caliber team. We are not much better or worse than right now, than we have been all season. We just finally played some bad *** teams. It'll happen again next week.

Old MSU football was painful. I'm getting used to going to Bowl games every year. We obviously have some issues that we need to resolve but I'll take 8-4 with a bowl over tech and 10.

7-0 was a fun ride...now we need to coach up the players and hopefully finish out at 9-3. Arkansas and Ole Miss are wins on paper, now we have to execute.

I have read some really stupid **** on this website before, but saying that Mullen needs to go or that we wouldnt hate to see him leave is by far the stupidest.

There is never, never, NEVER going to be a universe where a 7-2 start at MSU is unacceptable. Being ranked the in the month of November is never going to be unacceptable. I hate the way we lost, and I definitely thing assistant coaches need to be/will be held accountable, but to say that it is time for Mullen to move on is just 17ing RETARDED.

I agree

We may have to change some coordinators, but firing Mullen would be way worse than Ole Miss firing Cutcliffe.

just absolute lunacy.....madness.......complete stupidity......

there is a simple formula to win at MSU, and it is simply to run an innovative offense, win MS recruiting, recruit heavily in the trenches, and supplement talent any way you can - transfers, JUCOs - that supplementation is a must. Mullen is well on his way to doing all 4 of those effectively. old school MSU football is ****, old school is not what won us games. emory bellard and jackie sherrill knew, you had to take a different approach to offense while having the studs to actually stay in the games with the SEC heavyweights. emory used the wishbone, jackie did it with a huge OL and a ground pound game with excellent special teams. mullen's doing it with the spread. there are always hiccups, especially after 4 years.

mullen had a bad day yesterday, let's just leave it at that, and understand that's it's easy to make mistakes in this league.

This is inaccurate and confusing. Obviously you didn't watch state in the 90s. We pulled plenty of upsets. Spurrier never beat Jackie in Starkville. Enough said.

Mullen has upset noone at home.

Jackie had also won the Sugar Bowl as a head coach and had been a head coach for 13 years when he arrived at MSU.

Lack of experience was one of the trade offs on getting Dan, but it is an acceptable one. We sacrifice experience and instead get some one who is young, hungry, driven, and has something to prove.

The alternative? Gamble on somebody with experience and get what? Houston Nutt? Ellis Johnson? Charlie Weiss?

Where did he say we didn't pull upsets? You are confused only because you apparently lack reading comprehension. Nothing he said was inaccurate.

Mullen has upset no one at home... True. He's also been upset BY no one period home or away. Mullen has lost to zero teams that weren't bowl eligible. Every single loss was either ranked at the time, at the end of the season, or very very close to being ranked. Jackie, on the other hand, was a nonstop roller coaster ride, even in most of the good years. Any given Saturday he could beat anyone or lose to anyone. You never knew if you were getting Jeckyl or Hyde. Given the choice, I still prefer Mullen's style of winning what you should win and losing what you should lose.

Jackie
91 - Loss to 5-6 Memphis
92 - Loss to 2-9 LSU and 5-6 South Carolina
93 - Tie 2-8-1 Arky State and tie 5-5-1 Arkansas
94 - Loss to 4-7 LSU
95 - Loss to 2-9 La Monroe and loss to 4-6-1 South Carolina
96 - Loss to 5-6 Georgia, 4-7 Kentucky, and 4-7 Arkansas
97 - Loss to 4-7 Arkansas
98 - Loss to 5-6 Ok State and 4-7 LSU
99 - No bad losses
00 - No bad losses
No need to even bother with the ones that happened after this point.
