Now that the SEC Season has come to an end once aGAIN, let's study some numbers. We finished the season 16-14, that's obvious... but let's break these down:<div>
</div><div>In games we won (16) against SEC Teams:</div><div>-The largest margin of victory was 9 runs (Arky)</div><div>-2 games went into extras</div><div>-5 games were won by 1 run</div><div>-4 games were won by 2 runs</div><div>-1 game was won by 3 runs</div><div>-(10 of our 16 wins were won by 3 runs or less)</div><div>-Our average number of runs scored is 5.25</div><div>-Opponents Average number of runs scored is 2.0625</div><div>-Our average margin of victory is 2.0625 runs</div><div>
</div><div>In games we lost (15... including the Gov. Cup) against SEC teams:</div><div>-The largest margin lost by is -8 runs</div><div>-3 games went into extras</div><div>-6 games were lost by 1 run</div><div>-2 games were lost by 2 runs</div><div>-3 games were lost by 3 runs</div><div>-(11 of our 15 losses were lost by 3 runs or less)</div><div>-The average number of runs we scored is 3.2</div><div>-The average number of runs our opponents scored is 5.93</div><div>-Our average margin of loss is -2.73 runs</div><div>
</div><div>*I picked 3 runs specifically because that margin counts as a save situation for pitchers.</div><div>
</div><div>Needless to say, we played in many very close games. 5 of our 31 games went into extras and we were 2-3 in extras. 21 of our 31 games were won or lost by 3 runs or less and the difference beween the number of runs we scored when we won and number of runs we scored when we lost is only 2.05 runs (meaning we didn't win by huge numbers, nor lost by huge numbers, on average). Also, the variance in the margin of runs scored in wins and losses is not much, either. By the numbers, we played fairly consistent ball. We didn't really win big, on average, nor lose big. </div><div>
</div><div>Things I'm proud of:</div><div>1. We played scrappy, fairly consistent ball. Our pitchers kept us in nearly every game we played. For the most part, they did their job and did it well. Our hitting can improve, but the pitchers deserve some kudos for the job they did this year.
</div><div>
</div><div>2. We did not get "blown out" in many games at all. In 07, we lost 7 games by more than 3 runs. This year, it was only 4 games we lost by 3 runs or more. We are improving and playing more consistent.</div><div>
</div><div>3. We have a winning SEC record.</div><div>
</div><div>4. There were many times this year we could have folded, but we didn't. If anyone wants to find out how many games we came from behind at some point to win, feel free. I know it was more than 4 (including today). This team busts their *** for 9 innings and these numbers show that, I think. </div><div>
</div><div>5. Minus the Gov. Cup, we went 18-6 in OOC play. The only headscratchers being UCA, an extra inning loss to Washington, and being swept in a 2 game series with SE La. (wanted at least one from them). Not bad at all. Win those games, and we are 21-3 in OOC. I'm not completely ecstatic about our record, but damn, it could have been a lot worse. </div>
