and an MSU graduate or fan.

What would you donate money to?

If it were me, believe me, our baseball program would be in much better shape. I would be the Bobby Lowder of college baseball- except with some knowledge of what the hell is going on.

I would have gotten rid of Polk a LONG time ago, (actually, I would have made sure that he was never brought back in the first place) and I would make sure that we got the best baseball coach that we could and that he is the paid well for it.

I would also make sure that Dudy-Noble Field stays the Carnigie Hall of college baseball and that everything is done first class. Actually, scratch that, I would build a new baseball stadium and put my name on it. Guess who's name wouldn't be on it? I would then make them retire the number 4.

Who would that have been? It's clear you would not have hired Cohen, so who would you have hired?

of Polk II my money would have been on Manieri. And I agree with Todd, Dudy Noble first. If I had billions that facility would always be a few notches above any other college baseball facility.

It was pretty clear that he wanted the job in 2001, and I think he would have done a great job at MSU.

He was the Air Force Academy's most successful coach and then took over Notre Dame and made them a very good program, which is very difficult to do in the North.

We didn't give him the time of day.

I would adopt 75 of the best football players in the nation and 13 of the best basketball players in the world. We would be #1 at every sport as long as I was alive (which will be for another 70 yrs or so hopefully).

I would only change a few things:
If it were me, believe me, our baseball program would be in much better shape. I would be the Bobby Lowder of college baseball- except with some knowledge of what the hell is going on.

I would have gotten rid of Polk a LONG time ago, (actually, I would have made sure that he was never brought back in the first place) and I would (try to) make sure that we got the best baseball coach that we could and that he is the paid well for it.

I would also make sure that Dudy-Noble Field stays the Carnigie Hall of college baseball and that everything is done first class. Actually, scratch that, I would build a new baseball stadium and put my name on it. Guess who's name wouldn't be on it? I would then make them retire the number 4.
I would also throw a serious amount of money at the football program and build build something way better than the hump. But mainly I wouldn't try to act like I was the AD and do the hiring and firing. I would strongly encourage the AD to get the best person out there and to pay them extremely well. I would voice my displeasure when a coach does poorly but I wouldn't "get rid of them" because I know enough now about sports to really enjoy it but don't think that I would have time to really focus on how a championship team is being built since I would be a billionaire. I would have A TON of other stuff to do.

I would buy the old Burger King and make it the Toots Shor's of Starkville. Then I would invite the big 3 coaches over and offer them free tabs for life and ask what else they need. Whoever made the best case would get the most attention from my wallet.

make the West side match the east, close in the north endzone and put in a bad *** club level like "The Zone" at Bama. There would be sky boxes on top.The seats would come down right to the field. Then I would I would close in the South endzone as well. Make the windows on the front of the M-club sliding glass doors that open up to outdoor seats. This way our team could run out of an actual tunnel.

Of course update the bathrooms, councourses and ****. I want it to fell like you are INSIDE a building like other stadiums do, not UNDER bleachers.

I'd pay for renovations to Dudy Noble. I'd like an entrance like Scooba has talked about and at the front I'd put a plaque with that **** that John Grisham wrote about Dudy Noble.

In addition, I would donate so much money to the academic part of the school that State could hire the best professors and move out of the bottom tier of SEC schools. Leave OM in the dust.

I would donate to improve the football stadium. If attendance gets over 50,000 on average, I would want to have it expanded. We need a bigger place than the Hump for basketball. Baseball would be the richest program in America. Maybe an indoor baseball stadium.
Edited to add: We would never 17ing play La Tech in 17ing Ruston every again.

The new name would be, of course, Mississippi State. That way we would become more dominant and all the old UM fans would either have to start pulling for us or USM. Oh and I would schedule USM every year.

Oh, I am sure that I would probably need Bill Gates money and still actually care about sports like I do know. Something tells me that if I became a billionaire I would probably become very "latitudely" challenged. Anything above about 25 N would be out of my range.

I would walk into a meeting with Byrne and Cohen, checkbook in hand, and tell them to have it drawn up any way they would like with all amenities they could come up with. Fast track it and send all invoices to me. From design stage to final completion. That would be cool as hell.

...so I could leave the whole kit and aboodle to MSU, but I'd restrict my donations. The lawyers on the page know what "restricted donations" are; they simply bind the recipient to spend it as the donor directs. In return for the gift, I would want the name of Mississippi State athletic teams be returned to "Maroons" and keep Bully as the Mascot.

Here is my list:

1. $300Million to do a either do a makeover of Scott Field or build a new one which is the envy of everyone in the SEC. It should seat at least 80,000. I'd require Greg Byrne to raise funds if my gift is short of what is necessary. I would allow any very significant matching funds to allow a corporate sponsorship or individual(s) who who could have naming rights. I don't need my name attached to anything. I'd want a tracked roof over it which can be kept open, but closed when there is bad weather, either excessive heat (90degrees+) or storms. I'd require MSU natural grass be used for eternity. I'd also require the bathrooms have an "L.T." over the men and women's rooms .

2. I would restrict $50Million to renovate and update the Dude. Greg would have to find matching donations if this is insufficient of what needs to be done. I'd restrict the money to require that the left field lounge be retained forever, but that the left field lounge be tiered with a front row and a second row with ramps to the second tier on both ends. The second row would be 20 feet higher than the existing front row and be constructed of reinforced concrete, with concessions and bathrooms underneath. I'd also require that the vehicles be updated and meet generally accepted safety standards, and locations be auctioned off by the Bulldog Club. I'd demand that seating heights be limited to 20 feet from the surface of Dudy Noble field for the front row and 20 additional feet on the back row to make the total height no more than 45 feet including construction allowances.

3. I would restrict $75Million to update and expand the Hump. Any additional funds would require either corporate sponsorship or matching donations. I'd take off the existing roof and add an arching "tent-like" roof over the current Hump, then add additional seating up to 18,000 plus offices, media rooms, weight training and conditioning space and practice courts alongside under the eaves.

4. I would restrict the use of $75Million to build an indoor multiuse facility to include indoor track and field, and a gymnastics/swimming facility. One major obstacle to being very competitive in track is the lack of an indoor track, so our track team is forbidden to even compete in SEC indoor events. I would want both gymnastics and swimming teams started.

That is $500Million of my $1Billion gift. I would want the remainder of the gift, $500Million, be held in reserve, with excess interest funding student athletes' academic scholarships. Student athletes who graduate from high school with a 3.2 or better average GPA and a 21 on the ACT or higher, would have access to these funds for underfunded sports like baseball, track and field, tennis, softball, volleyball, soccer and gymnastics. This fund would also be accessible for sports teams travel for overseas play, like a basketball tour in Europe or Australia, with balance between men and womens sports required. For example, if the men go to Sweden and Norway for a tour, the women should also go.

I'd require the fund be managed very conservatively so it would never lose current value in constant dollars. Only excess funds over adjustments for inflation would be available to use for scholarships and travel.
