Let's take a look at Stansbury's talent....

...since many people seem to disagree that the talent level is down. I am simply posting our roster's scholarship offers from other schools, according to Scout.com. If somebody has Rivals and the info differs, I'd like to know.

Class of 2005 - We have nobody left. Gordon went pro, we sent Rimmer and Goodridge packing, the Delks are both gone, and Ellis never made it.
Class of 2006 - Barry Stewart - State, MTSU, and ECU. Phil Turner - State and Southern Miss. Gabiddon never made it. Hans is gone. Jarvis Varnado - just State.
Class of 2007 - Riley Benock - State and William and Mary. Elgin Bailey - State, LSU, Ole Miss, UNLV, and Southern Cal. Kodi Augustus - just State. Ravern Johnson - State, Bama, Memphis, and Ole Miss.
Class of 2008 - Holcombe - just State. Twaany Beckham - State, Bradley, UAB and Wichita State. Bost - State, Miami, and Virginia Tech. Romero Osby - State, Bama, Kansas, Louisville, Ole Miss, Tennesse, Texas

Wonder why we are struggling? Look at 2005 and 2006? We have zero seniors due mostly to people leaving because they didn't work out and we sent them away or because they wanted to transfer. I obviously don't hold Gordon going pro against Stansbury. He had a successful career here. Our veteran leaders, Stewart and Varnado have zero quality basketball offers between them besides us. Turner is a starter. We are lacking alot of talent from that class.

Benock getting significant minutes is a joke. Bailey is underachieiving right now, and Johnson is playing decently for an inexperienced sophomore. He'll be good. And why was Bost hailed as such a great star recruit coming in. Miami and VTech are about on our level as far as basketball tradition goes. I thought he was going to be the second coming. Obviously, Osby stands out to me as the guy that should be starting and playing well. He is underachieving to this point.

Interesting info, but outside of Osby and Johnson and maybe Bost, we are sorely lacking in the talent department. Stansbury's recruiting has gone down hill.

they got in on him late. UNC almost offered Osby as well. Their boards were talking about him like crazy just before he committed to us.

We have also signed a lot of project players. Augustus was a project. Hence the MSU only offer. Same for Varnado, but he has developed due to extreme length. Brian Johnson has been a bust. Elgin is pretty tough, but isn't a scorer. He had decent offers. Goodridge was a project as well. When he stepped on court at MSU, he had only played like 2 years of hoops.

national Top 100 lists as I recall, although it came late in the game. He is also a legit pro prospect and the SEC defensive player of the year, so to use him as an example of talent being down doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Baylor's misfortune, but he's really picked and chosen badly these last few years. I hope he turns it around-this new sheriff seems impatient

I'm just saying that the only major division 1 program to offer him was MSU because of the Mid-State Ballers AAU conncection with Hopson, Varnado, and Stewart. We had to fight off Georgetown, Pitt and other major programs for Goodridge and he blew ***. (or never developed)

...his offensive game is below average and he is way too small and gets pushed around. The NBA doesn't care about a 6'9" lanky shot blocking specialist. It would be different if he were 3 inches taller or significantly bigger around. I am a big fan of his, and he is a lot of fun to watch, but he is not an outstanding talent, except in the realm of shot blocking.

so that comment was not meant to be controversial. The reference to Tyrus Thomas is appropriate. I remember one of the recruiting services saying that they moved him into their Top 100 because they didn't want to miss on him like everybody did on Thomas.

Augustus wasnt a project, he was offered by half a dozen excellent programs. and Jarvis was also offered by Memphis, Tennessee, Xavier, and Colorado. i hear that 3 of those have been dominant over the last few seasons.

If Augustus could dribble and chew gum at the same time, he'd be playing or would have played last year. I heard Phil Cunningham say that MSU was the only real division 1 team to recruit Jarvis. Take it for what it's worth.

Augustus' supposed problem is lack of caring about defense and constant hustle. That has been pretty well stated over and over again.

If Cunningham said that, then Cunningham molests collies. seriously. his comment is totally in every way wrong. and i cant imagine he is that ignorant about one of his own players, so it really is just a flat out lie on his part.

1. Stansbury is going to miss the Tourney this year, and that makes 3 of the last 4 years of missing the Tourney
2. Who is responsible for getting talent on campus? Stansbury
3. Underachievers? Why are they underachieving? Could it be they arent getting the coaching they need?
4. Who is responsible for transfers? Stansbury
5. Why cant freshman ever play well under Stansbury? Why is Ravern "inexperienced" as a Soph? Because of Stansbury

Make excuses, analyze it all you want...but his job is going to be on the line next year- and its probably going to be without Jarvis or Augustus on campus

so let's just leave it at that. I do find it interesting how you leave out the 4 consecutive NCAA tourneys prior to 1 of the last 4 (including this year) and the enjoyable (to most of us MSU fans) NIT run in one of those years.

...just can't see it. And even if he does, without gaining some strength and offensive skills, he won't make it in the league.

nothing I said can be denied. Those four consecutive Tourneys were from 2002-2005. Those days are over- its 2009. That **** dont matter anymore. And an NIT bid is not a successful season- I dont care if you enjoyed it or not.

somebody as negative as you is simply not worth that much of my time. If the pessimists of the world are allowed to make all the decisions then things would really be bad. Luckily they, like you, are not allowed to make those decisions in most cases.
