This one really stings. The poor decision by not going for it on 4th and 2, the awful roughing the kicker call, and the even more awful call on the fumble just makes it worse. Beating ND(a weaker ND nonetheless), and Louisville in the same season would have been HUGE for our program. I hate saying this because it means we didn't win, but it wasn't too long ago we would've have given up 8-10 big plays instead of 2-4 and we would've lost by 30+. We can compete now, and when we play to the best of our ability we can win.

Great effort...screw job on the refs on the fumble Humphreys recovered...Poor decision by special teams to allow roughing kicker- I mean we get ball back regardless, rite!!?? Again a new special teams coach this year as Zach Roper has been kicked over to OC.
I like the grit and resilience of our squad, but we do need to score more pts....Too many times this year we've only manged about 13-14 pts....I really feel we should be 6-1...Need to play like it our last 5 games....

Loved Cut's comments after the game. Said the roughing rule needs to be tweaked, but more importantly, he said Borders did exactly as coached. Took the right angle and did it right.

so just an off the cuff question. back when duke signed derrick tangelo i seem to remember one of the ''football'' guys on this board saying he was going back to relook at him.since rivals had him as an ol prospect. just wondering whats up since the profile on him is so wrong on this site. he is over 290 lbs now and having an impact at dt.for his school. espn rated him as a 74 mid level 3 star, 247 as a three star and was hoping that rivals could update.please and let us know what they think. dline is such a position of need and i love that we have been able to sign some big boys.
By the way we have OPEN this week dbav....They have a marvelous "AIR" ATTACK on offense because they seemingly score at will....They do however provide little resistance on D, so our O-line should have no problems opening holes and protecting Jones....lol

Ok Duke football fans we've had a week off. Time to heal some and move forward after a good game played vs. UL. The season is not over. We can win some of these next games. We owe two of these teams big time in Miami and the unc vandals. You gotta believe. OFC

like our chances in this one. getting to 500 at this point would be real nice.
Dropped passes, fumbles, blown coverage, missed tackles, and last but not least conservative(stick to game plan) play calling have shot us in both feet. I had high hopes after the UL game.
just a tough game to watch. horrible performance by team and coaching staff, offense has moments (most of second half) where you see what could be but fumbles and just plain predictable play calling kill us, fourth and 1 twice and we go straight up the middle, surprised no one.turn the ball over on downs. then our defense just made the 109th ranked offense look like louisville. we suck. why do you blitz on 3rd and 17? lost contain and qb scrambles for 40. can our dbs ever knock down a pass? as the announcers kept saying duke does not do the little things right. and i think that goes to the coaches. hate to say it but i dont see us winning another game this year.
Not going to flower it up either Surf- NO WAY we should have let a RUNNING TEAM throw it all over the place....Its a veteran defensive secondary for crying out loud! The offense scored more than enough to win if the D shows up, and our schemes work...
3-9 definitely probable...

I think the big penalty 2 weeks ago against borders got in his head. He made more than a few mental mistakes today.

Can anyone name one aspect of the defense that has improved over the last 4 games of last year? Has a single change in the scheme been made to stop big plays?
This will probably sound like a shot at some of you, but it isn't intended to be. It is meant to be just a fun observation.
I see a lot of complaining about the staff and the players and it actually fills me with pride at how far this program has come under Cutcliff that these are our expectations. I don't remember the glory days of Duke football like the OFC, but in my lifetime, they have been awful. I think I mentioned before that in the 4 years I was at Duke, they won 3 games total and had 2 winless seasons.
I actually take the venting with a very optimistic view. Never did I think Duke football would be at a point where it could challenge a top 5 team (Louisville), or a powerhouse in a bowl game (Texas A&M), or ND in South Bend, or GA Tech in Atlanta, or any bowl games, let alone 4 in a row. I thought I'd have to resolve myself to only seeing us beat upon NCCU and DII schools.
They may not be winning the games we want them to, but I'm excited that their games are even watchable at this point. I love how hard they are fighting. Changes may be in order, but I watch Duke football with a huge smile on my face considering where they were 15 years ago. Keep fighting fellas.

All I can say is that it's going to be really fun watching Humphreys and Giles-Harris progress over the next few years. Love that combo at linebacker.

Sears from my understanding is still very SOLID...In fact hes expected to be on campus in time for spring practice to compete w/Jones for starting job....

Its time to bid adios in my opinion to both DC Jim Knowles and DB coach Derek Jones...Its obvious as you say the schemes arent working and the Duke secondary CONTINUES to get lit up!! Mediocre qbs have had their way passing against a VETERAN CORE of Duke DBS all season long(Hinton, Benfeld,Thorson Thomas) will never be passing qbs at the next level.
Saturday Thomas (a great running qb) looked like Peyton Manning throwing for 264 yds on ONLY 10 COMPLETIONS! Atrocious!!! The 4-2-5 may stop the option on wet fields, but thats about it....
This all goes back to '13 when Knowles blew a huge lead in the Chick Filet bowl....its time for a CHANGE!
