is quicker reads from Tyler which ultimately is a quicker pass. Less three step drop backs, MORE presnap reads by Tyler or by Les/Dan. Gotta recognize coverages faster will help this OL out a LOT! Also to piggyback on what another poster said, this years schedule works WELL for our OL. But as they said, GOTTA get that Auburn game! I expect to see a hell of a lot of pistol when Tyler's in there. He looked comfortable in it this spring and in the pistol you can do those quick inside passes to release pressure off of ur OL. But in the past guys seemed to be scared to catch that type of pass in the face of an OLB or a drfting saftey. I honestly think before it's all said and done Dak will be a CRUCIAL cog in our success or failure this season.

In order to get to that we have to have so many attempts, and if we have that many attempts it probably means we are playing from behind a lot. Even with Tyler and our receivers we should not be a pass-first team. This isn't Bobby Petrino and Arkansas.

Russell threw for almost as many yards as Relf did on less than 2/3 the attempts Relf had. That alone could easily give us 40 more yards per game on the same number of attempts as last year. You've got it backwards. If we don't average more than 220 yards per game we won't go bowling.

I think the key for us in 2012 is the execution/development of Tyler as our starting QB and the play of our WR's. If we're to truly "turn the corner" as a football program, I think how Tyler & the WRs perform if and when we are tied or behind in the 4th quarter against Auburn and Arkansas will be the difference in 6-6 vs 8 or 9 wins. Will Bumphis finally return to the form of his 2009 Georgia Tech performance? Will Arceto, Smith, Heavens finally learn how to play off bump & run coverage from SEC CBs and get open? Will our WRs make the clutch catches in critical 3rd down situations that were missed as seen in last year's South Carolina debacle?

As far as the OL is concerned, I think the OL will develop and will be better in 2012. I think our Defense will be as strong as last year and even stronger. The kicking game is troubling and needs much more production than 2011, we kinda sucked on kick-offs and Field Goals. I guess we were OK in punting?

Last year, only Arkansas, Georgia, and UT passed for over 220 yards in the SEC. Bama was close with 215. These teams finished all over the map in wins.

Teams on the low end of passing yards were also all over the map - LSU and ole miss both around 150.

2010 was much the same - Arkansas, UK, Bama, USC, UT, and UGA all surpassed 220, with Auburn at 215. A spread of good and mediocre teams. As a general trend, more passing yards is better, but passing/rushing %s don't decide wins.

Here's the way I see it - if we don't come close to 220 yards, it means that Russell sucks. If Russell sucks, our offense designed around him will suck, and our team will suck, and not go bowling.

We've been 60/40 rush to pass since Mullen got here- 2012 will see us get closer to 50/50. I'm the president of the "Mullen prefers to run" club. Hell, just look at our future at QB- Prescott (dual-threat), Sheussler (sp?) was signed only because we had to sign a QB, and now Sandberg is committed and is a dual threat guy. However, with what we have right now- we are going to have to throw the football a little more. Russell hits targets down the field much better than Ralph did- and this will cause our yards per attempt to go up drastically.

Hulkbuster brought up a good point also about Russell hitting quick passes to help the OL- to me, this will be the key to our offense. We have to hit quick slants to beat blitzes and help the OL.

I also believe we will see a package for Dak running the Spread option, read option- maybe even the veer at times. Those 3 plays, plus the QB counter will give teams something else to prepare for on defense. And it gives Dak experience without him having to come in firing away.

I agree with coach. I think that the O-Line will be better this year due to overall depth. Russell should make quicker decisions. If Russell can find Morrow early this year as a deep threat, that will open up the running more than anything else. Russell should set the a new passing yards record this year. He'll have Chris Smith and Malcolm Johnson as reliable possession receivers.

Russell is far more accurate than Relf and might have topped 220 per game last year if he'd been our only QB.

I wish that when people threw out a win/loss prediction, they would consider the schedule. To sit here and say we will win 4 games is ridiculous and misinformed. Don't just throw out a win loss record that makes sense. Actually look at the schedule and decide which games we will win and lose due to our shortcomings.

But with Russell running the ball a little less than Leak did. Like you say, it will be close to 50-50 run/pass. We're going to see a lot more WR and TE screens than we have and less option. And Prescott is going to have a package that he'll run from time to time to keep teams off balance. I don't think he's going to be the designated TD quarterback like Tebow was, but he'll get some snaps.
