This is a very reasonable viewpoint, imo. Born and dvl have a different perspective obviously and i can't help believe their ideology isn't playing a part of their discussion. Especially since in almost every instance, it dictates their behavior.

My political ideology DID play a part when I responded like I did. There is also NO DOUBT that the person I called out IS also influenced by his political ideology. Is that clear enough?

I think you are correct in saying that RPJ was also influenced by his political ideology, especially his ideology as compared to that of Nugent's. That doesn't mean that he isn't correct about Nugent in this regard.

Never said he was not correct......I believe I also expressed disdain for Nugent. Some other posters see where I was coming from on this.

There is a huge difference between choosing not to enlist and literally crapping your pants at a physical to determine your draft eligibility. Anything that I would say about what I would have done if I was of age during Vietnam is pure conjecture.

Also, I think there are limits to your statement about criticizing someone over something I chose not to do. I chose not to pursue a music career, but I can still say that Justin Bieber's music is crap.
You are in way the hell over your head if you compare Nam to a music career. Young men were getting killed left and right in Nam, and that was not happening to those in school.

I was of age and got my invitation. Had train ride to Ashland, Ky and Beckley for physical and mental tests, and was on my way when physical showed ulcers of stomach. Sgt said they couldn't feed me proper diet altho they wanted me for test scores. Said they could take me if ever needed for a job stateside, but now the need was for jungle of Nam.

Returned to WVU(land grant) and attempted to get into ROTC that was paying $50 per month(I think) and I needed the money, but they rejected me for officer training because of age and ulcers. Lot of young men were getting into college for Student Deferment Classification. That was second highest ranking for draft - first being single in the age range. Drafts were selected by lottery and if your number came up in that secondary group, you were on your way to Nam. Knew two pretty well in the second category who were drafted - a freshman football player and a second year student. Triple Prick was definitely eligible if he was in college in late60's, and maybe early 70s. Could apply for student deferment in professional school and feel pretty secure from draft. I don't remember when draft ended.

Re. Trump statement that he "preferred his heroes to not be captured". I was OK with that after he made explanation a couple minutes later. I feel my step-dad every bit a hero as Audie Murphy. His only comments about WWII were he drove a tank for Patton during his first tour, and on second he was riding a motorcycle delivering messages behind German lines. Luckily he was never shot nor captured even tho he was constantly exposed. IMO, all who served in that war were heroes as are those who have beenin later shooting battles.

And, I really don't give a *** if all of you ignore.

I'm not comparing Nam to a music career. It was said, in so many words, that someone who didn't join the post-draft military had no room to fault Nugent for the way he tried to dodge the draft during Nam. My comparison was going after that. If someone who wasn't in the military isn't qualified to assess Nugent's actions, then people outside of the music industry aren't qualified to critique music.

I don't know RPJ, but I thought I remembered him talking about being at WVU in the late 70's or early 80's. If that's right, he wasn't of age until after the draft. Without looking up the exact date, I thought the draft ended somewhere around 1973.

Early '73 in conjunction with Nam draw-down.
