The fact that Croom hasn't been offered another HC position proves it further.
The General is spot on re: Sly Crooms.
He never seemed appreciative to be the head coach at State and everything that went along with it. It was as if he was doing us a favor.
Don't want to see another mile long Croom thread but HD6 was dead on when he was saying that Croom will never be warmly welcomed back the way Sherrill is at MSU now no matter how much time passes and its because of the direct polar opposites of the attitudes and leadership of both. Sherrill is THE coach that taught the MSU fanbase how to win and BE winners and to not take a backseat to anyone in this conference. No matter his last 3 years nobody can deny that he transformed the attitude of our fanbase in that we can expect to have a quality program just like our conference brethren do. Croom on the other hand really didn't buy into the job from day one and did more poor mouthing about our program than any rival needed to ever do. He brought back the old inferior attitude to MSU from the pre-Sherrill days and blamed everybody and everything for our program's troubles BUT himself. Its kind of ironic that both men were from the Bama lineage and yet one used what he learned from that to instill pride in the MSU program and fanbase while the other seemed to lead our program with the constant attitude that we were too disadvantaged to every compete in this conference like his beloved Bama. Mullen is very much cut from the same cloth as Sherrill as far as attitude and pride with the program and that is the big reason Mullen has been embraced so positively by the MSU fanbase like he has and also why I believe Sherrill and Mullen have hit off so well like they have. Croom's "woe is us" attitude running our program along with he and his buddy Woody's total ineptness in running a college offense spelled doom from the word go to MSU football ever really being successful under his direction.
We turned down Gary Patterson and Jimbo Fisher to hire Crooms. It's officially the biggest debacle of a hire by an AD in the history of the SEC.
I heard this the other day and I'm still pissed about it-
Not only did LT choose Crooms over Jimbo Fisher- BUT Gary-freaking-Patterson wanted the job back then. A family member of Gary's works at State, gave LT his resume....Patterson called LT multiple times and LT never even returned his call.

Almost - Last year we turned down Shaka Smart to hire Rick Ray.

you touched on what bothered and still bothers me about Crooms.
If you look at Joker Phillips, you see a man that represents his university well. You see someone that appreciates the chance he has been given. Now it appears Joker may not work out for Kentucky- and he may just be a guy that is a much better coordinator than head coach. But you can at least appreciate him for what he is trying to do.
But Crooms had a different attitude. He never seemed appreciative to be the head coach at State and everything that went along with it. It was as if he was doing us a favor. I've never seen someone so unappreciative of such an opportunity. It just never made sense.
Damn. Just....damn. I knew we turned down Jimbo Fisher (which was also supposedly a package deal that would've included Chizik as DC). But we turned down Gary Patterson, too? Un-damn-believable. There's just no words for how incompetent LT really was. I'm essentially speechless. I repeat, Damn! Just....damn!
