Little satellite help, fellers....

Having a big camp out this weekend with the family and a bunch of friends, some of which are of the UT variety. Would like to bring a day (and night) of football with me.

Is it just as simple as taking my DishTv dish with me and pointing it in the right direction? I can put a post in the ground, we have outlets at the site, etc...

Some of you pros help a Dawg out; this will be my first attempt at bringing it to the great outdoors.

Your answer is sometimes it is that easy. I know that is not what you wanted to hear but it is the truth. I have done it multiple times and I will say that I have more trouble for some reason with Dish Network and I find Direct TV to be easier.

You will need a couple of things that will make it easier. A compass and a level can make things much easier. Also, I think you can go on the website and type in your location and they will give you the coordinates to where you should point the dish.

We even downloaded some apps to help and they were garbage. It just takes some patience and it is nice to have a helper to tell you what percentage your signal is at and get you the multiple beers required to dial it in. You need to be pretty exact, it is not just a point it and you will get it type thing. At least that has been my experience.

It's really pretty simple. First of all the pole the dish is on has to be straight up and down. Not eyeball straight, level straight. Then you can find a site through google to put in your zip code to get your elevation and direction. Then fine tune it through the receivers setup menu where it shows signal strength. Then keep the kids away from it and enjoy.

You need to do a trial run in your driveway tonight to make sure everything is good. Sometimes it works fine, sometimes you have to
call DirectTV and get there help. Don't know why, just been involved with setting them up at the tailgate for years and sometimes it works fine and sometimes not.

Go to your satellite provider and get a satellite finder. It is a little device that connects between sat and receiver. You turn the little knob about half way up and when it gets a strong signal (8-10) you should be good. They can give you a quick study on it I'm sure. You can also manually move it(clear view of the southwest sky) but that is much more difficult. If you do, go to menu 6, 1, 1 (DISH remote) and you can measure your progress. Manually will be a ***** most likely so I would get the sat finder. You can gooogle and punch in your zip code to get your coordinates. I have them written on my satellite but out of town now. Very key that you be 100% level and that your sat pole be set to true north and south. Been doing this for years--hope this helps. Good luck and Go Dawgs!!!!
