Must've been a bad time to mention the expansion.

Best to fill that time with a kraft single on a hotdog instead.

That was bad. Maybe they feel that we already have enough hype, wanted to cut back on a few $$$ and did a season ticket/brian's hotdogs hybrid. Because I'm about 60% sure that was a commercial about hotdogs

I agree completely. Watching at home is really no comparison to going to a game because it's infinity times better for the average fan and even more if you have a wife and kids. You got to sell the intagibles like the "were you there when" moments and memories made with the gameday experience. The way they did it will get fans over analyzing and critiquing the commericial and how much better home is than the experience. With advances in technology and sec network deals msu can't tackle the stay at home arguments head on because they will never win versus those that are thinking on those factors.

Ditto. Good concept. Decent image quality. Poor execution. Probably better than anything since "This is Our State."

The spot was produced by Broadcast Media Group out of Starkville. It does look really good, but in the end it doesn't pump me up for football season. Although, I'm probably not the demographic they are trying attract. I see this spot as a way to target families/casual fans to buy up Top Dog/General Public tickets. I think it definitely accomplishes that.

The new video production crew just started in July, so the "hype video" guy who came from Auburn is probably working on some stuff to release in August to coincide with fall camp starting. I expect we'll see much better quality than we have in the past.

Agreed, but he screwed up the order. You're suppose to put the cheese on the bun then put the dog on top of it. I thought this was common knowledge.

I'm confused. The wife/kids have season tickets, but the husband chooses to wear maroon on gameday and sit at home? I don't believe this is real.

Maybe he stayed home because his seat wasn't finished in time.**

Why did they feature a huge backdrop of Dorman in the DawgWalk footage? Is that Uverse, Comcast or Direct he is attempting to watch? We need to debate the merits of all on here again before the season starts. That said, that is MILES AND MILES better than that rousing rendition of Hail Dear Old State sung by various fans that was featured a year or 2 ago.

PS: Mutt, did you notice that HE was washing dishes and that his wife didn't cook him anything before going to the game?

A more realistic approach

Would be having the TV show the espn3 interface with a 'this game is blacked out in your area' message displayed. That or him not being able to find the secnetwork on his cable box because his provider doesn't carry it. Followed by him tweeting stricklin asking how to watch it.

This is the G rated version. In the unedited cut he furiously masturbates for 4 hours and occasionally checks the score on his phone.

That is a terrible effort. Obviously you see what they're trying to do - but the execution is horrible.

Never mind that. He's watching the Egg Bowl. The wife and kid left Dad home on Thanksgiving to eat a hot dog?

Academic committees just cant create effective memorable and engaging messaging. Better strategy than this exists as well as better execution. In house staff even with ok talent always struggle. Just look at our in-game commercials as examples. Single minded strategy and solid execution always beats a spot with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in with a boring voiceover. And yes I have been in marketing across the country all of my life.

Just so I dont come across as too critical....most academic institutions have the same issues. Does not make it right, but most use similar strategic models to develop messaging.

You are correct. What's bad is the commercials that are created specifically for our sporting events are cheesy and low budget. The ones that are well done are un-engaging traditional tv spots. No one wins.

IMO, the best execution of a gameday commercial is the Drake ad. Not because 9/10 people in the stadium have a hunting license (that's part of it), but because it's a much softer and honest sell. It doesn't have Stricklands screaming at me from a Mersaydeez work van. It's a shame none of the sponsors can get this right. Most of these local/low budget spots have done zero research into how the target demographic reacts to specific types of messaging. I can assure that you guy that wants a Benz, doesn't want SS and a grease ball yelling at him.

dont they make cheese infused hotdogs to solve this exact breach in etiquette? I must admit, i have used shredded cheddar as a topper before but diced and shredded work, but a whole slice awkwardly atop a hotdog?

that guy has something up his sleeve. his significant other is far too good looking for him, he puts full slices of cheese on his hotdog, he watches games at home while his wife is off tailgating and such.........im trying to piece together this picture and no matter how hard i try, it just doesnt add up. i cant prove it, but i think it has something to do with his condiments selection. if that main problem were solved, i feel like the whole thing would work itself out.

That is all true. But it's not (or shouldn't be) because of a lack of budget/resources. I could bring a team together and for $10K-$20K crush this project. The talent locally and in-house just isn't cutting it. Like you Dogarrifc, I also do this for a living. Maybe, I should make a phone call.

The Mercedes ad from last year is another thing that bugs me. From game 1 people bitched about that ad. It's so incredibly easy to make another spot that doesn't suck. And during the week it takes to produce another spot, they could have put in plain text on the screen next to their logo with some bad-*** music playing - "We heard you. No more terrible commercials. Buy a Benz. And, Go STATE!" - and they would have owned the day both in the stadium and on social. Why would you continue to run an ad that people complain about all season? Why??????
