^^^^^This^^^^^^^^

You Ole Miss guys act like a landshark gesture is a reflex or something. Hell yeah it is premeditated and that is fine. I absolutely do not care if OM is allowed to do it. That does not bother me. It does bother me when Chris Jones does a salute and gets flagged. Was his hand just not facing the right direction?

I already mentioned that the rules explicitly mention throat slashes, gun signals, and salutes. I don't think salutes should be included, but they are. That's the difference.

If everyone else can do a "celebratory" jesture, we can too. Like symbolize ringing a cowbell or something, if we got flagged for it, then landsharking ought to get flagged as well.

So if one of your guys throws up a sideways landshark then he will get flagged? Odd.

I think the simplest way to do this is to make it where most celebrations are allowed but only for 2 seconds or less. That would eliminate long choreographed dances and take a bit of the subjectivity out of it.

MSU players can do a celebratory gesture as long as it is not taunting or one of the gestures that is explicitly illegal. No one ever said that they couldn't.

I agree with this, but there does need to be a better interpretation of taunting. The rule book's examples are almost always excessive (shouting obscenities, pounding the chest while straddling an opponent).

Honestly, I think the NCAA needs to have a list of "approved gestures" and teams can request that their gesture be approved. So, Florida has to request that the Gator Chomp be approved, etc. If the gesture is approved, then that team is allowed to do it, so long as the gesture is not explicitly directed at an opponent. If the other team does the gesture, then it is a taunting penalty. That would take out a lot of the subjectivity because it would be in black-and-white.

Please explain to me why bearsharking is not taunting if UM players do it? It's premeditated for pete's sake, it's not a reflex like cheering and celebrating after a play is.

For the same reason that the Gator Chomp, Hook' Em Horns, Gig 'Em, Pistols Up, Bear Claw, etc. are not taunting when done immediately after a play and not explicitly directed at an opposing player. I seriously don't get why it is so hard for you to understand.

"reproach (someone) with something in a contemptuous way"

is the actual definition. And, I can tell you that the landshark definitely reproaches other players in a contemptuous way. So, I guess it is officially taunting.

Let's be real here. The rules are too strict on celebrations anyway. This is big time college football with a lot of money and time invested into it. The celebration rules should move closer to what the NFL has.

I may be in the minority, but I've just never gotten my knickers...

a knot over it. It's the opponents job to not give them a reason to do it.

Honestly, I do not recall them doing it to may times against us.

Robinson and Chris Jones did it last year, and it was a thing of beauty.

Care.

ETA: Regardless of who does it (Ole Miss or an opponent), it is clearly taunting. Anyone who says otherwise is full of it. I do not think it should be penalized.

Not only did CJ do it, the rest of the team started doing it, and the coaches on the sideline were doing it. Either everyone should be allowed or no one should be allowed.

Definition of taunt (v.): "to reproach in a sarcastic, insulting, or jeering manner; mock."

So, when I said mocking is the definition of taunting, then I was correct.

Is the Gator Chomp clearly taunting, too?

So help me understand that doing a landshark isn't mocking the opponent you just bested?

Because it is a celebration along the same lines as the Gator Chomp, Tomahawk Chop, first-down signal, chest bumping a teammate, etc.

Now, Fins Up could be taunting if a player gets in the face of an opponent and puts it up. But if he makes a sack and is moving away from the tackle as he puts it up, then it just a simple celebration (i.e. not taunting).

It isn't that complicated.

This 100% EXACTLY

I am trying to figure out how throwing up some hand signal after making a huge play (sack), isn't seen as a taunt towards the opposing player/team. They're (ones giving the sign) essentially saying "Hey look what we just did! We just blew their *** up! Hand signal!"

How about we allow you to Landshark on the sidelines before the game? Would that work?

Have you ever seen a player do a "Gator Chomp" or "Landshark" after getting his *** handed to him?

Florida player makes a sack, gets up, and in the direction of his teammates or not directed at anyone, does a Gator Chomp - not taunting.

Florida player makes a sack, gets up, looks down at QB, does a Gator Chomp - taunting.

Florida State player makes a sack, gets up, does a Gator Chomp - taunting.

Tim Tebow makes a play, looks right at Oklahoma defender, does a Gator Chomp - taunting.

It really isn't that difficult.
