First of all, I am 100% on the Ray bandwagon. It was time for Stans to go, and I hope Ray does very well. But...

There is a ton of spin going on right now. I have no doubt that everything you've heard, you did hear from people within or close to our athletic department. That makes perfect sense. But that does not mean the info is necessarily accurate.

When someone in a position of power leaves an organization, voluntarily or not, that person is likely to become the scapegoat for any potential problems the new hire has. This is especially the case if there is sympathy for the person leaving. That is what is going on here.

The truth of the matter is that Hood likely did have issues during the season. But also, all we have heard about him is that he is a high character guy. He waited until after speaking to the new coach to make his decision. It was Ray's job to make him want to stay. He was unable to do that.

Josh Gray has been asking for a release for weeks. Ray tried to talk him into keeping his commitment but couldn't. We then leak word that we are releasing Gray due to grades and off the court issues. If you actually believe this, then I don't know what I can say to you. We are not allowing him to sign with other SEC schools.

There is a ton of info leaking from our AD right now. It has a purpose, it isn't surprising, and it isn't different than what goes on in any other business. Our AD knows that the fanbase is not excited about this hire. They know that there is still remaining sympathy for the old coach. What would you expect the message to be?

Hood admitted Ray gave him his hardest workout probably ever. Ray proved right there he could make him a better player. My take is Hood believes he is too good for MSU now. A good year next year at State, and he's a possible 1st rounder but instead he wants to go sit out a year. He didn't give Ray a chance.

our program for the last several years with the type of talent we have had we needed a change. I only wish the entire group
was gone and not around to 17 with things. Damn, several first round picks an we looked like we did. I hope the best for the
new coach and our program. We have a great fan base and deserve better than we have been getting.....

Go State....

The problem most of the people I know are having with this is the fact that we are really going to suck for two years (at least) and people don't have patience....It's not Rays fault, it unavoidable, but that does not make it any easier...</p>

what I said then. Maybe it's a fairly new rule? Maybe I shouldn't trust what I read on a website. I also heard it from Matt and Douche on Head2Head on the way home yesterday. Let me see if I can find the rule number again and I try to copy/paste it and see when it started.

I can't determine if we actually offered or not, but we were never about to get in a bidding war with Illinois. I feel like we waited for Groce to go to Illini to become final and then we went after Prohm our 3rd and final time ...it was a very good offer, he declined ...we went to New Orleans an interviewed at least 3 assistants, some say 5 ...Stricklin picked Ray

school anyway. Screw that. But I read the damn rule on a message board yesterday, I read a tweet by Josh Gray saying it was a SEC rule, and either Matt or Richard said it on air yesterday afternoon too. I had forgotten all about Steele being an Auburn signee too. Regardless, I hope Josh Gray has fun playing for Houston the next few years. I still would've loved to have him though.

Or is being released from a LOI drastically different from a full on transfer in that way?

Either way, Gray seems to thing he can't go to another SEC school, and wouldn't he know if that wasn't the case?

You can release him unconditionally or make it a condition that he can not go to an SEC school.

The two year rule is for players that sign a LOI and are NOT released from it. I don't see why some people can not understand that.

Steele was released unconditionally from his LOI and that is why he could sign with us and get a scholarship.
