If you're in Starkville, check Boardtown Trading Post - they usually have some. And, check the Starkville Library maybe get them for 10 cents if you find something. Waterloo Records in Austin, TX, has a lot to go thru as well as stacks of new turntable systems. They have more than one location in Austin, don't know about Houston.

If you're in North MS, try the Tupelo Flea Market next time it's in town.....

Lotsa old vinyl there.....I picked up a couple of vintage Boston vinyls there not too long ago back.......

Welcome to The Dark Side

You will never be the same.

#1: Don't be afraid of buying NEW vinyl. Just do a little research to make sure it's reproduced from the original analog recordings. If its pressed from a digital file, then you're just overpaying for a glorified cd. A lot of current bands are recording analog these days: Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Charles Bradley, Black Keys, anything Jack White...

#2: Don't buy vinyl thinking you will set it on a shelf to grow in value. Music was meant to be LISTENED TO. And don't overpay. That copy of Let It Be your uncle has had in his attic for the last 40 years is not worth 30 grand like he thinks it is.

#3. You can build an awesome vintage stereo for cheap. I bought a pair of Cerwin Vegas for 100 bucks, and a vintage Sansui receiver for 40 off of Ebay and they meet my listening requirements perfectly. I LOVE my set up.

#4: Splurge on a stylus. Spend about 65 bucks on a Sure. Yes: It makes a HUGE difference.

#5: Take the time to calibrate your turntable. You damn near need an engineering degree to get it just right. But it'll will be well worth it.

#6: Vinyl is just like any hobby. There's going to be nuisances that drive you bonkers. I was so proud of that Grand Funk American Band on gold vinyl I paid 20 bucks for… until the third skip. I was ready to put my foot through the wall after that.

Morningbell Records next to Olga's in Jackson.

4 The Record convention in Jackson in March. Come see me. I'll be the guy slingin' Crawfish Chowder and Gumbo.

You can always use Internet resources like eBay to get fair deals on "vinyl lots." You'll find some duds in those lots and generic classic albums that aren't worth much but are essential for listening/collecting. It is a good starting point for building a collection.

Spiritualized-Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is the best thing I've bought.

Sig's Lagoon in midtown.

I have nothing to compare to in the houston area but it's awesome. Very organized too.

I recently bought a crosley with a digital out and hooked it into a set of Boston acoustic 3.1 stereo speakers and I love it. I know crosley doesn't make the best players but it's awesome for the nostalgia.

New vinyls I've bought so far: Mumford and Sons (both albums), Alabama Shakes, The Lumineers, Black Keys, the Killers, Explosions in the sky, and Nuetral Milk hotel. So fat it seems that Alabama Shakes is the most quality album of the lot in terms of audio quality

And you would be ABSOLUTELY right.

Not meaning to hijack this thread but since we're discussing vintage music equipment, does anyone here know where I can get an older stereo set repaired? I have a 1980 TEAC, amp, cassette, turntable, receiver, all separate units with a pair of Sansui speakers. Last time I plugged it up, 10 yrs or so ago, it had a very annoying hum. Been sitting in my attic since. I would like to repair it as I still have a pretty decent collection of vinyl that I would like to listen to from time to time.

I've collected records for years. I cringe when someone calls them vinyls. I collect mainly punk 7" and 70s country LPs. I've paid a lot for some and have sold test presses for hundreds of dollars. I like collecting test presses the most. But one thing is for sure it can be a money pit and turn into an obsession fast

Went to the store in Raymond today

Because of this thread. My 15 year old daughter is recently into records and apparently likes bands of the 70's 80's and I know all the words to those.....We had fun looking through the bins and bought a few....even a couple from the 1/2 off bin. Have no idea if I overpaid but they have a lot of records and it was fun.

Just what type of music are you seeking?

I've got some, but most of it is warped, due to being in the attic.

But hey, it will still play.

Try ebay....most flea markets has someone selling vinyls. Get a program that eliminates the background noise.

I have over 400 vinyls that I have mp3'ed....but I still play the vinyl's some due to the analog sound vs the digital chop chop.

And mostly get a good needle....

Well, OK they are albums but today they still call CD's albums. So to be correct they are vinyl albums vs CD albums.

If you are in Jackson, go to the record shop thats located in the same shopping mall as Piccadilly. The guy has a ton of good vinyls in there, and will also order what you are looking for.
