Mainly just drills. No scrimmage..
Everyone looked healthy for the most part except didnt see payday moore there.
Liked some of the intensity in the defensive drills.
Williams has a nice stroke for a big man so I expect him to put a few up.
Copeland looks strong .
Expecting big things from Wilcher.

We shall see...

Had friends in for the weekend so I couldn’t go. Please, I’m starved for info.
Like I mentioned above it was mostly defensive and fast break drills .. not much to garner from any of that.
It was good to see 14 healthy bodies and high enthusiasm.
Definitely more athletic and big men who can operate outside of 5 feet.
Time will tell but it appears to me sha and coaches like what they see...
Let me add turn out by the fans was sparse . Not sure if that was due to the weather, football or what?

I think the statement that it was mostly defensive drills and rebounding is a bit off. Most of the defensive drills were also offensive drills.

Wilcher, Parker, Jones and Roddy Anderson generally worked together and competed against one another. Yes, there were shell defensive drills but at the same time, they were working on driving, kicking, locating to space and shooting 3s or getting to the rim. The team put up a ton of 3s and foul shots , all while challenged by sprints so they were shooting all these attempts in a simulated game / winded experience in pressure situations (miss the entire team runs).

Plus the FG% and FT% was constantly being communicated with clear goals set.

Team didn’t scrimmage so was hard to get a true assessment of what we have. Spent a lot of time watching Wilcher, Parker, Anderson and Jones in the 3pt shooting drills. Wilcher shot it the best with Parker and Anderson and behind him. Team definitely has more talent than last year. Copeland will be fine at C especially with 6”10’ Williams playing alongside him at the 4. The Israeli is no where near ready to play. With Italian kid was hard to tell if could contribute. Looked like he could be an end of rotation guy. Every year seems as is Sha is a little more mellow. Was smiling, encouraging and rooting on the players througtout the drills. Didn’t say anything at the end of practice which suprised me.

It has nothing to do with Holloway. D1 scrimmages, unless they are fundraisers are closed to the public.

No longer the case about fundraising in the sense of giving to charity. You can have up to three scrimmages and the money can be used towards revenue sharing. The proceeds for Monmouth are going towards SHU’s revenue sharing. There is a reason St John’s and UCONN are doing multiple public scrimmages. I don’t think it makes much sense to do closed scrimmages anymore. Might as well get them used to playing with fans especially on the road.

The problem is talent level. SJU and UConn have a following that will pack any game they play. We struggle to just fill Walsh.

Yesterday was a prime example. Both teams played and the practice was opened to anyone. Maybe there was 400 people in attendance, Which included free food and beverages.

Schools can now have up to 3 scrimmages (it used to be 2).

Most schools have 3 exhibitions. We have one. I believe that is Holloway’s call (I agree with it btw).

These scrimmages mean more than you guys think. We beat a middling V Tech team last year and scored 50pts against a bad St Joe’s team. We should’ve known offense was going to be an issue from the start.

Plus Sept 20 is early for this event to my recollection. I know the school must want to schedule it not to conflict with Giants and Jets to the extent possible.

It also has to do with the overall attendance malaise, as Dan pointed to. That’s where the cloud of secrecy stuff hurts and that’s where the HC’s approach to transparency, fan engagement, the media etc doesn’t help the cause.

It’s the same discussion every year…. Closed scrimmages are not the same as games. Score takes a back seat to instruction. Maybe with so many new guys to work with, Holloway prefers practicing stuff against another team, complete with situational stuff the focus, to an actual game setting even though it’s an exhibition. It can be that simple.

That’s fair. I want to see the attendance for the Monmouth exhibition to see if fans show out. In regards to Sunday I think part of it was the weather but also it was only open to season ticket holders and we definitely have less than we had a few years ago as I think the terrible season we had turned people off. Bryan announced we have over 90% renewal which can be a little misleading because we loss some people last year. Curious to see if we had an uptake in new season ticket holders. Also have to wonder if the lack of retention hurts attendance. I’m sure if we had Budd Clark and Hines it might have been a bigger turnout

I think for a place like Seton Hall an intimate event like that is such a great idea. I didn’t mind that it wasn’t packed. Gave you much more time to hang out with the players and for the kids to run around. Coach Holloway even played cornhole with my 3 yo daughter and her friends. I hope they continue to run it.

They should have waited to open up the food and rec center until after team was finished. Seemed like more people were in the rec center eating then in the gym watching the team...

The workout was open to everyone. The food and drink, only to season ticket holders.

I am not sure that is true. All emails said "Season Ticket Holder event", no mention in other locations like shupirates.com or social media that I saw about the event. It might have been open to all, but if not announced publicly that there is an event or that is open to all, how would people be aware of that? Original emails about event made no mention of food & drink & just said it was the Meet the Team Day.

Also it was only announced a week or 2 before. I don't know about you, but we have stuff most weekends that has been scheduled weeks or months in advance. Fall is a busy time with family things and I'm a Giants season ticket holder.
I got an email on 8/17 about event. But agree with you fall is a busy time, I was unable attend myself due to youth football.

Sat with multiple people who didn't have a wrist band which was needed to get into the Rec Center,

Also, when I went to sit upstairs no one was checking to see if I was a season ticket holder.
