you are retarded if you think Strick is gonna get fired over a single hire that no one has any clue about yet.

He forced out a coach who had a lot of friends among the big donors. If he makes a bad hire and our next coach goes 30-60 over the next 3 years, I could easily see some of those supporters being pretty pissed about it. I don't think that's going to happen, but I sure don't see why it couldn't.</p>

I don't understand why so many people are freaking out about this when literally about a week ago, people were still praising Sticklin for having the balls to make a change. This along with the fact that he's done a great job improving facilities and the atmosphere for football.

People need to calm down, take a step back, and let the search play out. It hasn't gone the way we would have liked, but we don't know if there's a reason for that (maybe he's targeted Dooley and they don't want to announce until KU is gone - we don't know). Let it play out - I bet he makes a decent hire. Even if he doesn't, he's still not getting fired. It's just silly to say that, especially before whatever coach we hire actually does anything with the team. Even if we make a "bad hire" today, it doesn't mean it will end up bad, and if it does, it would be 2 or 3 years down the road at least before Strick got real heat for it.

To suggest this makes us sound like a moronic fanbase. How has he screwed up anything? Not like we were going steal a quality head coach from anyone in a BCS conference. And in this day and age mid-major coaches just don't jump like they use too - most are content to make a good six figure salary and wait for a dream job for awhile. We never had a shot at Smart, Groce got offered by a better program, and Bryce stayed at his alma mater and by his parents who are battling cancer.

The best we were ever going to do is a mid-major coach or an assitant coach. Odds are, if you aren't wearing blue(Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, UNC*) you aren't going to get the top guy on your list.

If he makes several bad hires then I will question his ability on choosing the right person. To me, his job as an AD is to make the hard calls(which he did), not over pay to geta coach, and structure the deal so we don't over pay to get rid of one.

* I know there are a few other big programs. We are not one of them. We are in the top 40 out of 350 Div 1 teams, but not the top 20.

We have one of the best AD's in the country and our moronic fans are starting threads about firing him because he had the balls to stand up to the cigar boys and get rid of the worst coach in the conference.

Do you want us to repeat the reason we think you are a moron or did you just want everyone to read them again to help drive the point home.

What has he done? Started a marketing campaign? We pay a marketing department to do that. We pay our AD to be act as a CEO.

The Athletic Department has a Marketing Department inside of it. It is not a Marketing Deparment with an Athletic Deparment inside.

Bookmark this and in two years we might have an idea if this was a good hire or not...
Only Time will tell.
I know you are still mad we ran off our "old coach". Get over it, he is gone, time to move on and support Coach Ray..

Would a top-25 program hire a guy nobody has ever heard of?

He might turn out to be a great hire. But if he is, it will be a surprise to almost everyone.

But don't worry about me supporting the new coach. I'm not the one who spends 90% of my posts bashing our coach.

I think he would be allowed to have a second shot at hiring a bball coach if we tank. Unless we aren't just tanking record-wise, but also having program-wide discipline issues.

I'm not saying that football success buys Stricklin leverage. I think it will keep everyone happy though.

We now have the facilities to be there. Let's hope Coach Ray puts us back on the CBB map.
I am taking the wait and see approach, only time will tell how good our new Rick is...
