His stats are so much worse in Israel than they were in Italy, no wonder he left. He needs to go back to somewhere with decent food and peace.

He is easily one of my all time favorite players both from an ability standpoint and what we know about him as a person. Hopefully something works out for him in the future.

There are shot blocking specialists with limited offensive games, sure, but pretty much all of them are much stronger than he is. His only position in the NBA was going to be the 5, and he wasn't strong enough to bang with the bodies he was going to face nightly at the 5 in the NBA.

The only way he could've played the 4 is if he was on a team that had another big that was strong enough to play the 5 defensively but was also an offensive threat. There aren't a ton of players in the NBA that fit that mold to mesh with his style down low.

He was an unreal college player and really could change the complexion of a game, but he's one of those that just didn't translate to the NBA game. It's odd how that happens to some great college players.

This is the type of person that I actually hate the situation for, not the guys who absolutely blow through millions of dollars.

But they wouldn't pay any buyout so he would have to drop from his team in Isreal. One of the weird articles that came through on twitter.

He'll probably end up in Russia if he did leave his team in Isreal.

There are players that are great in college, but if they have any weakness in their game, it gets exploited at the pro level. JV's weakness was his lack of strength. He could've made a serious living with all the same tools if he either would've been 40 pounds heavier, or if he was the same weight but had a jump shot in his tool kit.

ability alone but they seem incapable of adjusting to different cultures. My family's from Mississippi but it was easy for me to live in Britain, Germany, and France and I could adjust to any place (I even survived a couple of weeks in Arkansas). But for some provincial college basketball players, Europe is like another planet and home in America is just so far away. It's certainly more culturally diverse than America. When you're homesick, have difficulty adjusting to a new culture and new cuisine, and have a rigid practice and travel schedule, basketball is no longer a joy to play. Plus there aren't as many basketball hoes following the teams.

The food there is pretty good. It's not Italy, but it's not bad.

As far as peace- all of those countries are fairly turbulent in the Middle East. Israel is probably one of the safest right now as far as the Middle East goes. Their security is extremely tight, and for good reason.

Last I read, Jarvis was starting for them. Odd.

As for his dominant stats last season in Italy, he played for a second level national league. They weren't even in Italy's top league. Pretty sure the competition wasn't exactly a bunch of former all Americans in terms of talent.
