Looks like the "Superiority" issue is actually from the Northwestern side...

Looking at it objectively you have to say they will win. No superiority there. Of course they are going to look down on a Mississippi team no matter what, but I ignore that ****.

They will want this game more, seeing how they haven't won one in 60 years or so. And it's a recent trip for us. Very similar to the Egg Bowl. Look at the schedules and results. Look at the schemes.

But we have to, at some point, rid ourselves of that thinking. We need to learn to deal with success.

Yep. A MSU team should never feel like it's "just another bowl game" and not show up badly wanting to win. We had that look in the Egg Bowl so hopefully we snap out of it and beat the purps

Not so sure that's arrogance or superiority as much as just being optimistic, and maybe a little wishin' and hopin'. A poll for a game that is basically a tossup should be about 50/50 with objective voting.

I suspect out poll will come out the other way, but not 9-1.

I hope you're right. We could possibly excuse Alabama and A&M as just being totally outplayed regardless of team attitude, but not the Bears. We truly acted like we didn't want to be there. And I think that was a holdover from getting stomped by those two teams.

Our schedule was one that was totally unbalanced with the first half (almost) being too soft and then we hit one helluva wall. The loss to Alabama didn't help the mental aspect (players really thought they had a chance) and then there was somewhat of an effort against LSU, total collapse against aTm, resurgence against a terrible hog team, then up against a bear team that had much more incentive. It was just an odd schedule and helped get to a bowl that we needed, but it was somewhat of a disappointment...strange.

Right. We basically don't know how good we are against a relatively normal team. We played only supposed pushovers (Troy wasn't) and national champions ... and the Bears.

But we won't have the soft early problem next year. We'll play a couple of cupcakes but starting off with OkState will not be easy, and I think Bowling Green was pretty good this year.

They don't seem to have much of a passing attack or pass defense. If you get an early lead, you should fine. If they control the ball/clock and run on you and win the turn over battle, you lose. I would have to put my money on State despite your poor performance in the eggbowl.

That's a long streak, but I'm not sure why they keep mentioning it. It has no bearing on the game.

No direct bearing ...

but if we'd not won a bowl game in 64 years we'd probably mention it too. Probably get to feel snake bit after a while.

Not being argumentative just to be argumentative but why should they win looking at it objectively? Doesn't vegas make a great deal of money to look at games dispassionately and objectively when picking opening lines and we came out favored? As far as i can tell looking at it objectively it's a coin toss at best?

I have to concur with you...

I don't think we're being arrogant by voting for our team in a poll on our own site. Homers will be homers. We're a confident bunch this year - for a change. Trust me, it's a welcome change.

FWIW, I'd hope your poll would be the reciprocal of ours. :)

This bear is right. We'll have to mix up our play calling and catch them in a nickel on 3rd down and use the TE on a seam to break it open. It was there against the bears it'll be there again Vs NU the difference is the bears have better DBs and OLB (speed) to match up against us moreso than NU.

Meanwhile ...

They haven't won a bowl game in 64 years.

State has a 'streak' also and is tied for #29 on the list of ...

Current bowl winning streaks.
