I used to get the biggest kick out of him on ESPN on their scoreboard show with Mark May.Man. Used to not officially be football season till ole Lou. Predicted South Carolina to be in the SEC Championship game and Notre Dame to be national champs.
Take my word for it.Lou Holtz is a National Treasure
***Prove to me that Lou Holtz did not play Granny Clampett on The Beverly Hillbillies***

That time may have been the peak of college football greatness. Lou was a big part of it every Saturday Night.I used to get the biggest kick out of him on ESPN on their scoreboard show with Mark May.![]()
I forgot about that show, it was fantastic. Didn't they have a judge skit too?I used to get the biggest kick out of him on ESPN on their scoreboard show with Mark May.![]()
I was able to see him speak at an event as well, your post got me to thinking back to that and reminiscing about speakers that I've been fortunate enough to see. One thing that stood out was along with Holtz, Jack Welch former CEO of GE had a commanding presence. Both were short and small of stature but owned a room. Two different styles completely. He will certainly be missed. My dad saw him speak at some event and never tired of saying he was the most entertaining and inspirational public speaker he'd ever seen.
Yes and Reece Davis was the host of the show and he played the judge for the skit.I forgot about that show, it was fantastic. Didn't they have a judge skit too?
ESPN was so good back in those days.Yes and Reece Davis was the host of the show and he played the judge for the skit.
Yes it was. I still say that was the heyday of college football. Led up to it from the 90s and into the BCS era. Not because the product was better but for whatever reason 'it' (as in, the whole system, helped by Gameday and Lou and Mark) just had a way of making you feel a part of it and almost like it was the most important thing in the universe.ESPN was so good back in those days.
Yeah it was. On that show he was a giant homer for all the schools he ever coached and they used it as sort of a gag. If he brought up Notre Dame he would immediately talk them up with Mark May rolling his eyes and laughing.ESPN was so good back in those days.
I never heard Holtz say one good word about MSU. Mark May was the opposite.Yeah it was. On that show he was a giant homer for all the schools he ever coached and they used it as sort of a gag. If he brought up Notre Dame he would immediately talk them up with Mark May rolling his eyes and laughing.
Holtz said a lot of good things about MSU. I don't think he cared for Ole Miss much.I never heard Holtz say one good word about MSU. Mark May was the opposite.
I don't remember it. But I didn't watch all the time.Holtz said a lot of good things about MSU. I don't think he cared for Ole Miss much.
They also had the Dr. Lou segment.Yes and Reece Davis was the host of the show and he played the judge for the skit.
