"The main reason that I'm doing this is that I refuse to ruin the lives of two young men who have spent their adolescence and their teenage years working and sweating while we were all home in the air conditioning," Jones said.

Wth? This is so fvcked up and back woods thinking......how the hell did this guy pass the bar? Just gave a license to every kid out there to commit crimes as long as he can show he sweated while Jones sat in air conditioning.

This is why the cry for "more gun control" is just pathetic. A decent start would be actually prosecuting stuff like this, and the 40% drop off in gun prosecutions.
It is laughable. Until this country starts blaming the CRIMINALS instead of giving them the "it's ok, he was a good boy before he commited this felony" defense, the hand-wringing and political grandstanding is complete nonsense.

"misdemeanor charge of carrying a weapon in the presence of narcotics"

That's a new one to me. I guess it's ok to have a gun and it's ok to have some marijuana except not together.

kinda like if you carry and have a cooler of beer in your car at the lake.

That's quite a leap in logic. A rogue DA is the South let's two football players off and ... thats why we shouldn't have gun control. And this one man's ruling means America is soft on criminals in general. Ok ...

Always hard to tell what really goes down in these types of situations. Maybe the DA and defense lawyer were fraternity brothers at LSU, Slidell CC or somewhere else. I can't stand all the shenanigans that go on pre-trial. Say you are not guilty, but the DA tells you you can plea no-contest and get 6 months in county, or go to trial and face 10 years behind the walls. What do you then? It seems more like the lottery than justice.

The boys were the ones who would have ruined their lives by breaking the law. Sorry as I read and hear more of this, it's more BS than anything else.

Fixed the thread title. An All-SEC player rolling with Cheeb and a gun. Two dumb decisions and one dumb decision away from you, your friend or someone else getting shot and possibly killed. Wonder what Saban has to say about this.

I did not say we should not have gun control. Talk about a leap..... I used this as an example to show the shocking decline in gun crime prosecutions. I am all for using current laws to hammer those who think it's acceptable to commit gun crimes. Furthermore the current laws need to actually be enforced before political whining continues.

Very interesting/ confusing situation. Louisiana is always one of the harshest States when it comes to punishment.

If the local DA did not make such an idiotic statement and instead just dropped it because of lack of evidence this situation doesn't become the ****storm that it currently is.

Bottom line is we don't have all the details or why they came to this decision but I would imagine that fact they play for Alabama was not much of a reason they got off the hook.
