Democrats not swayed by call to end shutdown from largest federal workers’ union

Democrats simply don't care about poor people. Disgraceful.

https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/27/politics/democrats-afge-union-shutdown
They really don't. It's all about votes.

I thought that the Repubs could use the nuclear option to change the senate rules, get the CR passed and then change the rules back, but all that would do would be to set precedent for the dems and then at the end of the CR the dems would start this jackassery all over again.

CNN reporting Republican and Trump poll support numbers going up with people blaming the Democrats for the shutdown.

And yes they are responsible for the shutdown
Bless your little heart, Palmetto. And here I was reading news reports that polls showed people blaming Republicans for the shutdown by a margin of 56% to 43%. (There's always a few people who simply can't understand the pollsters' questions or decide how to answer them.)

Time will tell. I hope the Democrats hold firm on their current position. Voters know that Republicans control all three branches of the federal government, and that Republicans want to cut Medicaid, fire federal workers, etc., while giving tax breaks to the uber wealthy. That's not a good image to have. Add to that the fact that Trump and numerous other Republicans are celebrating the cessation of SNAP payments, and you have some real opportunities for the Democrats to seize the political initiative.

At least Trump is wildly popular with the soybean farmers and cattle ranchers. Oh, wait ...

So now you don’t believe left leaning CNN after you folks mock me for watching Fox

CNN is reporting America is blaming the Democrats

Late tonight the Chinese Wizard XI and Evil Trump came to an agreement that China will buy more soybeans than ever before.

Now we will see how the beef situation gets handled along with the renewal of war threats on the Afghanistan and Pakistan border

First let me say that I have sinned in the eyes of the TI posters on here who suffer Fox News Derangement Syndrome.

So I confess i listened to Fox this morning where Scott Bessett the Secretary of the Treasury was interviewed.

He announced China has agreed to buy 12 million metric tons of soybeans this year and for the next three years 25 million metric tons and at that time the agreement will be reviewed.

So if I were a guessing and betting man which I can be I would bet on the success of the Trump Train on this one with the Farmers being super winners.

@LafayetteBear You can thank Trump now for helping the farming.

On the beef you might not know this because the Secretary of Agriculture is not on her cell phone speed dial but she us having the conversation with folks in the beef industry about balancing beef imports with moderating beef prices while increasing the US supply of on the hoof beef supplies. That is what us folks like me call supply side economics.

Now to help you understand the process a cow must be inseminated. Then carry the calf for months. Then once birthed must go through a production cycle from womb to market that could cover three years.

So if you did not understand farming before please google this and learn something.

The point is the beef crisis started the cycle like three years ago and is now the Biden failure to address the birth of the crisis three years ago has now become Trumps opportunity to solve.

And solve it he will.

If you like steaks thank Trump for starting the process to stabilize the US on the hoof supply.

Hope you understand my poor English and grammar in a very raw rudimentary simple explanation,.

I will call it Supply Side Beef Cattle Markets for Dummies

Hope this helps you with your TDS

As an afterthought I decided to enlighten you with a mantra I have used a lot

You can’t take 9 women and have a baby in 1 month.

It takes 1 woman 9 months to have a baby.

Now fixing the beef supply side market cannot take 36 cows in one month

But will take 1 cow 36 months with tens of thousands of cows involved

The saying is not copyrighted so please feel free to spread it around

Have a nice day

Go Tigers

You won’t believe this but I am thinking I need to get me some calves on the hoof to raise for fun.

Only problem with that is my wife will want to name them and make them family pets

Then i will have to let them top out and keep them in the pasture

So probably best I don’t get a couple.

The flaming conservative Washington Post has published a call for democrats to pass the clean CR. I guess they didn't hear that it was republicans holding things up.

no, the funding for SNAP, military, federal employees is already in the CR. Democrats wouldn't break out the parts and neither should republicans.
So would it be accurate to say you cut the funding for SNAP in this theoretical situation when there were reasons you believed the overall negotiation was more important?

I didn't cut the funding for SNAP. If I'm a house representative I passed the funding. If I'm a Republican senator I voted to pass the funding.

But, to be clear, it's not just SNAP funding that's a problem. The military will not get paid tomorrow, air traffic controllers won't get a paycheck, federal employees the same and there are a multitude of others that will be affected. So why do we prioritize one group over another? You don't want to hear this, but democrat senators have talked about both their leverage and the need for Americans to feel pain from the shutdown. Well, when there's no funding for SNAP, apparently 40 million people will feel some pain as will our armed forces, their families and the same for federal employees.

Even the washington post has called on democrats to pass the CR and so have some of the federal employee unions. People who understand the process know that it's democrats who have caused this dilemma. If they want SNAP funded, pass the CR. And, now there can be no question who is holding up democrat "yes" votes. Schumer said he can deliver the votes for SNAP funding. If he can do that, he can deliver the votes for the CR.

Don't forget, even if Senate were to pass a standalone SNAP bill, house would have to pass it. And there's no guarantee that Johnson brings the house back into session.

My main point is that Republicans are also choosing not to negotiate and demand they get their way (by way of clean CR, I get that). They could come to the table and discuss things, but are demanding a CR. They have the option of folding and say yes to everything the Dem’s are asking for, right? There are two sides to this, and the truth is it is 60 votes for a reason.

So if I watch CNN on occasion that may say I am open minded
You at least get the news from two different perspectives, and that is useful in itself. I don't care who the news purveyor is; if you get your news only from that one source, you are likely to adopt the bias of that news source. And SOME degree of bias is inevitable, even for news sources that try to present the news on an unbiased basis. This is one of the reasons that I regularly watch some Fox News programming and post on this Board.

I would have expected no less from you on this issue. Thanks for your unbiased perspective.

LOL... So under Biden "clean CR's" where demanded and attained by your party. Why are they so out of favor now to the tune of 13 times?

Stop making an *** of yourself. This shutdown is solely because of leftwing #RESIST. They funny part is you will cave making it embarrassing for your party. Your party... the party of division and hate.

More "genius" from you, Hermy. From today's Washington Post:

One month into the shutdown, 45 percent of surveyed Americans ascribe the blame for it to Republican lawmakers and President Trump, according to a new Washington Post/ABC poll released Thursday. Democrats received 33 percent of the blame, while 22 percent of survey respondents said they were not sure.
