If you are not serious about fishing then go ahead but if you are a serious fisherman, you will be disappointed with a fish and ski.

A good fishing boat can pull you up on skis but it is not ideal for skiing, wake boarding, knee boarding. If all you are looking to do is ski a few times a year or pull some kids around on a tube, any good fishing boat will work for that.

I have never fished off of a fish and ski that I thought was ideal for fishing, since I spend whole days, sunup to sundown, fishing numerous times a year, I would put my money into a good fishing boat. When you try to combine the two you lose a lot.

I have been skiing behind a Triton fishing boat several times and it was fine but the set up is not good for a day on the lake skiing.

I don't know that I have seen people skiing behind a war eagle. Matter of fact, if I was your buddy going in on a ski boat, aluminum would be a deal breaker.

If you are willing to put the amount of money into a boat that you sound like you are, why not buy your own fishing boat and let your buddy worry about getting a ski boat. Not trying to be a dick or telling you to be a dick to your buddy but I think you would both be a lot happier in the long run.

Have you ever owned a boat with someone before? You better be damn good buddies because **** gets torn up and breaks constantly on a boat. I would suggest that the two of you have some type of agreement of who gets to use the boat when and that you both have an understanding about repairs and service cost being split up.

It would really suck for the fish to move on their beds and your buddy is out in your fishing boat skiing that week. Boats are pretty large scales pains in the *** and require a good bit of time and work to keep them up and in top shape. You probably already know all of this and have thought of these things, I was just throwing them out there after owning numerous boats over the last 15 years.

I have had a skeeter with a 75hp in the past. My Brother-in law has a Bumble Bee with a 150.

I got the Skeeter in 1988 when my kids were small and we did the family stuff. Pulled them on ski and tubes. It was a bass boat primarily, but it was fine for the family trips. I agree with the others here in that if you get a fish and ski you have neither a fishing boat nor a skiing boat. My primary thing was fishing and it worked great for that, but it worked fine for the periodic skiing trip.

One thing not asked is what type of fishing will you be doing and which type of lakes are you planning on going to? I had been looking for two years to get a new boat and looked at all those makes. I have heard from more than one person that the Tracker Aluminum boats are not high on the quality scale. The Lowe boat I have is absolutely impressive in the quality and layout. However, the fish and ski Lowe model is really the deep water hull. That tends to be used more by northern fisherman for walleye, trout, salmon, etc. It is not for bass fishing and trying to get up in skinny water when you have to. The stinger models 190 and 195 are 18.5' boats and are wide. They can handle up to a 115. The hull is a modified V and rides very smooth in all water. I took my 175 on Pickwick and it was a much smoother ride than my old skeeter.

Starcraft and Lund are primarily Deep V hulls and have always been a big water northern type market boats. Again I would be wary they will not handle shallow water well.

Also Lowe currently has a $3,000 dollar rebate until end of March. The place I got mine is advertising a Stinger 190 or 195 for about $16,000 with a 90HP. Jaco's MarineWeb Site.

Express. I know they came out with a fish/ski combo several years ago. I have a x17 and it is really too much boat for the kind of fishing I do. They are well built. I purchased mine from Mississippi Marine. Take a look at one before you decide. It is good to view all options and price them before you purchase. Good luck.

the primary site. That's in Virginia. there are also a few smaller lakes in NC we will fish well. The deep v boat seems tempting because of the looks, but it might not be practical if we fish close to shore. I'm torn. How shallow can a v hull maneuver in?

New cranking battery
Bad gas gauge
Two running light bulbs, front left and rear
Speed sensor is gummed up which will require me to pull it out of the water and clean out the sensor

Those are the repairs that are needed after this weekend. I was just mentioning them because if I owned it with another person the problem comes in here. The argument starts with who pays for all the repairs, you brother-in-law my not care if the gas gauge gets fixed and will just fill it up before using it every time. You just need to have a plan and understanding because anyone who has ever owned a boat will tell you that damn near every time you use it, you find something that needs to be repaired. Usually the argument begins with one owner claiming he hardly ever uses the boat and you use it several times a week so you should pay for the majority of the repairs. Just do a lot of talking and planning prior to the purchase, it will save you some problems down the road.

But I am sure you can find some info on google. I would guess where a bass type boat could do 6" to 12" a Deep V would be 18" to 24". I looked up "deep V hull draft" and found a few articles and message board info.
