Loyalty - if you were AD and let's say...

behind the scenes - you knew Mullen showed loyalty when he had an opportunity to leave for a better job. So - do you return the loyalty when conceivably this is his first season where the results aren't meeting the fans wants or do you say that's the price of coaching in the SEC - later.

As I see it...SS's job is to directly serve the university, not the HC.

Look, I'm all about loyalty...

In fact, I feel like part of what I'm being paid for here is my loyalty. But if there were somewhere else that valued loyalty more highly, I'm going wherever they value loyalty the most.

I think more than loyalty what is probably going on is something like this for now. We play in the Sec West and this year you have just about all the teams we have faced top 15 with a couple more top 25. We are only 1 maybe 2 games off what are schedule expected. A new coach may recruit better, hire better, plan second half strategy better but bottom line is the schedule is going to be close for this year. Loyalty will kick in big time next year...

Refresh my memory. What job did he turn down? I know there were rumors about Miami, but never knew he actually had an offer in hand.

That can't even be a consideration. If it's best for MSU football to move on to a new head coach, then you've got to do it. There is no such thing as loyalty.

Well if I'm Stricklin and not the irrational fan

that's too emotionally attached, then I already knew this year was a going to be a down year. So while I'm disappointed we haven't beat any top 25 teams this season, I wouldn't have expected this team to do that. Next year nearly every position will be two deep with Juniors and Seniors. That's why I keep saying next year is the year of the Dan. If he's going to beat Bama or Lsu, it will be next season. If not, then Dan will probably never beat those teams unless they go on probation or hire Croom as their coach which is the same thing. If I'm Stricklin, Dan gets next year no matter what, because that's the most experience he will have ever had at Msu and he's built that. So to me, he deserves the opportunity to see if he can meet the fans expectations next season. If he doesn't, then it's time to start looking to see if someone can.

Was the magnanimous display of loyalty before or after I approved a huge raise for him? But to be fair, it must be loyalty when he doesn't bash me publicly (like Mr. I'm 40) for scheduling a superior opponent during an off-year.

Its all part of the package. You reward the coach for what he's done for the program, both on and off the field. At the same time, the AD has to take an almost clinical approach to evaluating coaches and ultimately make decisions based on what's best for the program.
