The team is different every year am I right? This team isn’t good. They shouldn’t be judged off of previous Loyola teams. I’m a big Naz guy, the 14 and 15 teams went b2b and 17 went to the title, 18 seems pretty good but the 16 version was not a good team. Sometimes it happens, Naz had 2 d1 kids move or transfer out, Loyola’s got some big injuries. These circumstances were outside of their control but we don’t have to call them good because other previous Loyola teams were.

So is the reason they're the only 3-3 team in the top 20 because of their prior years' success?

Yeah that’s exactly right. They got ranked high because they’re Loyola which I’m fine with btw. They didn’t drop much after loss 1 because they’re Loyola. They didn’t drop much after loss 2 or out of top 25 because they are Loyola. If they are still ranked by people after losing to drop their record to 3-3 then well that’s a little silly and only because of their historical success.

This team independent from its history doesn’t deserve to be ranked or defended so furiously by people on here but they’re Loyola so they are. I don’t want to come off as upset about this, I’m not, I get how it works and I don’t really care if they are ranked or people call them good. To each their own, however I will not slap the good label on them because they simply aren’t THIS YEAR.

Loyola has three losses, all three of which came against teams currently ranked #18 or higher by Edgy this week. Two of those three losses were nail biters against MC (#5) and Montini (#18). Those losses could have EASILY gone the other way, and this whole thread would not have happened. The third loss was a crap the bed loss against Rice (#4). But, let's not forget that Loyola handed New Trier (#21) a crap the bed loss of their own; their only loss this year.

Good is a relative term. Is Loyola good relative to most other teams THIS YEAR? Absolutely. Are they good relative to previous years' good Loyola teams? Absolutely not. Although I agree that they should not be ranked at this point, that doesn't mean they aren't good.

I've been laughing a bit at this thread. Loyola hasn't lost a game on its home field since 2010. Yeah not big at all.
It was 2012 and they lost to MC earlier this year at home. I picked Montini in this one in an earlier post. I have stepped back from this for a couple of days and reflected a bit on all of the posts and opinions. My intent was not to offend the Montini folks, or take anything away from the kids' win this past weekend. Just a bit frustrated with LA's season. It's very strange. They beat a good NT team by almost 40 and then the wheels come off. I feel bad for the LA kids and coaches and hope they can turn things around. LA is always known for their defense and frankly, this D is subpar.

Mr. Speed:

Actually, the last time LA lost on their home field was earlier this season when the team hosted Mount Carmel. The loss to the Caravan was the first home loss since dropping to PC in 2009.

I was not able to get to the LA-Montini game last Saturday because of a trip to South Bend, but beating LA at home under John Holecek is an achievement not to be dismissed as insignificant. I have yet to see Montini play this year, but I do plan on watching them when I get the chance. From what I understand, they have several underclassmen playing and will be even better over the next two years.

For LA, this year may be a disappointment for the team and coaches, but for me it is not: John has provided me with over a decade of superior, dominant football and it is to be expected to have a modest season from time to time.

Regardless of the outcome of this season, those who are predicting the demise of LA's football fortunes based on this or any loss this year are gravely mistaken.
They lost to GBN at home in 2012 in the Semis.

For a guy who doesn't care, this is your 6th post on how Loyola is not good. You seem to be pretty invested in letting us know your opinion. I got it the second time you said it.
I have nothing against Loyola if that’s what you’re suggesting. I offered my opinion and people keep questioning me on that, I continue to explain myself, should I just ignore them? Good god man, some people on this board...

Agreed Ton Plug. What I see is a lot of talent in the pipeline for Montini going forward. I didn't openly pick Montini over Loyola but after they just beat Iggy in overtime, I felt Montini had a real good chance of coming out with a win.The only thing I felt in Loyola's favor was home field advantage. It was homecoming too for Loyola. I was not at the game and when the score was 21-0, I was really surprised until I seen how Loyola got their scores. Like Coach Bu said Montini wasn't losing to Loyola but to themselves and then they pretty much controlled the game after that only allowing 2 field goals.

I know Montini always plays well at home and that game against BR is at Montini so I again like their chances in that game. I have been to both the soph and varsity games for the past 4 years between these two teams and Montini has played both groups close and won a few too. So we shall see.
Don't worry if Montini happens to beat them all the x grade school coaches will tell you that this wasn't brother rices best team,,,so funny lol
