LSU recruiting makes zero sense...

They are coming off a sucky year in which their coach was a hair's breadth away from being fired. (The AD changed his mind during their last regular season game.)

And they have the #1 class. How is this even possible? Their coach is a boob...they aren't close to overtaking Alabama...they never have a quarterback. How do they get the #1 class in the land with one five star and 17 four stars?

Have you seen the baton girls, the cash payouts, the 'quality' education, etc.? I travel to Louisiana 3-4 times a year on business. A couple of big LSU fans say that Miles basically recruits a bunch of thugs and tries to keep them out of jail. Their words-- not miine.

LSU is just a popular team and sits in a more than fertile recruiting territory. The way ESPN hypes them and the Mad Hatter makes them intriguing to recruits.

Have you looked at their class and where they are from? 14 of the 22 are from LA, 4 from TX, 2 from FL and 1 from AL. They mainly recruit their home state and Texas. It is a lot easier to recruit when they don't have to go very far.

I don't care how many are close to your school. If the coach is almost fired and the record is below par, how does one recruit that well? Where else does this happen? It just seems really odd when thefeelings around the program are bad. And what makes people want to play for Lester? He's a goof.

They play for LSU. Doesn't matter who the coach is you go in make a splash and you're remembered forever and have income.

Maybe they grew up LSU fans and want to play for their favorite team no matter who the coach is.

Different deal, ever been there? If so you'd understand.

When in doubt, blame it on money under the table and lament that your school does not do enough of it.

I wouldn't say "never" on a QB, but a nice general statement to prove your point. They have secured the talent in their state which is substsntial this year. By all acounts Miles is well liked even though he he is apparently a boob (whatever that is).

LSU hasn't always been the top recruiting dog around. They've made it a priority and have capitalized on their successes.

I wish we could find any example close to this. With a lot of research, all I could find is Florida in 2014 bringing in the #8 class with 1 5* and 12 4* after going 4-8. Or maybe look at USC going 7-6 in 2012 under Lane Kiffin and bringing in 5 5* and 7 4* recruits in the 2013 class. Kiffin was then fired 5 games into the 2013 season. USC then brought in the #10 class in 2014 with an intern head coach for the remainder of the 2013 season who was not retained at the school.

It is pretty is pretty striking what has happened there. These recruits have to know that Miles may very will be a lame duck if they don't win this year.

Not all that surprising. It's the only P5 school in a very talent-rich state, they've been strong for the entirety of current recruits' conscious existences, and they have some monster recruiters on staff. Some of those Louisiana kids would commit to LSU even if the HC position were open. Miles also doesn't seem to have much of a character requirement for the players he and his staff target.

I think these guys are dead nuts right about LSU, like USC in Cali it doesn't matter who tue coach is or isn't because of the talent in the state, they will always get top tier players. USC does have Stanford, Cal and UCLA also in California but none of them equal USCs tradtion and blue blood status. LSU, like dude above pointed out, is the only power 5 team in that state. So they have first dibs on any recruit not wanting to leave that state.

While your lost with LSUs success in recruiting, im a little lost in Tennessee's success. Now this team hasn't done squat as long as we have and they're still landing a good share of 4 stars and some 5 stars. Now before pointing there location, i don't see how that matter, look at Kentucky or a few of the other bottum SEC teams and there not landing monster classes because of location. How does Tennessee get there guys like they've managed to pull the past several years...on the flip side, even though there getting top tier kids, there still not pulling in conference titles or anything special. You'd figure some recruits would see that and say yea....no thanks. I'll commit to insert team.

I totally agree with you on Tennessee and would add Ole Miss to that. They are pulling their 2nd top 10 recruiting classes in 4 years with very little tradition and success. Ole Miss has no conference titles nor division titles for a very long time. I think their best record was 10 wins in the last 15 years (and that happened once), yet they are able to pull a lot of good recruits.
