Seized his chance and slammed it with both hands!...made the play on the held ball and the last shot + all the other contributions in the game. Chapeau to Roy for giving him the opportunity too.

I respect this guy. Roy is smart enough to play his bench guys just enough to keep their confidence up. Duke would never be able to have a Luke Maye come in a play a game like today. Its unfortunate.
I just think Roy's damn lucky. Still an White sure played good tonight.

Bottom line, Luke is a UNC system player and not a Duke player. In Roy's system he has more freedom.

That is what college basketball is all about. He has probably worked his tail off to get this opportunity. He's not on anybodys draft board but who cares he made plays to win a big game. Happy for him

The reason Luke May is not at Duke right now is that Coach K has embraced OAD. The quality of the recruiting has improved dramatically as a consequence. In years gone by Coach K had had many Luke Maye level recruits and they did just fine.
Roy may have also embraced the OAD philosophy but due to the scandals that have been hovering like a black cloud over Chapel Hill for several years he simply hasn't been able to get Harrison Barnes types of recruits for a while.

I'm not by any means saying I want Roy lol or that he's better than K he obviously isn't but to see what Roy does with a lot of his guys is amazing

Even I'm impressed. I'm in the camp that Roy needs to successfully recruit more OAD guys, but he's done an excellent job at utilizing what he has. Maye is a worker, and I'm proud of him.

And props to you guys for congratulating him. It's probably a tough pill to swallow.

He's exactly what I want. Roy may not get one and dones but he's been in the final four two straight. He recruits players and he trusts them to do what they came to do. I like that

I wouldn't want a Luke Maye at Duke at this point in K's career, strictly because he is not in build and develop mode. He wants to win and win now.

I mean technically we have a couple potential "hidden stars" lingering around in Vrank, Javin and Jack. Heck, given the chance, JRob may be able to give Duke some quality floor time. But again, that is not the mode K is in during his twilight years.

I really hope next season our guys who stick around can develop something. As nice as some of the recruits we're looking at are, they aren't nearly as polished as what came out in the 2016 class (comparatively speaking), but that didn't work out so well for us it seems (overall anyway). The '17 guys hold an edge in toughness, I'll say that. Maybe that will mean something.

Luke Maye's dad, Mark Maye, played QB for the Heels back in the '80s. He was always going to UNC.

I think we all as basketball fans can appreciate and respect our rivals when it is the right thing to do. I've said many times this year I think Tatum was the star of the season, unstoppable at times, and IMO an all-star in the next 2 years. I honestly would have liked to see him in college another year as much as that would have hurt the Heels next year. And as well for you guys to acknowledge Luke is well appreciated. The kid has nowhere near the talent many other players have but his work ethic and great team attitude makes him a valuable asset.

Yep, I had to make a thread for our favorite Heel. I can't even hate this guy. That was awesome. Now this sets up the most obnoxious semi final ever: Oregon's arrogant guards vs. Roy's boys. May the greenest team win.
I know we rag on him all the time and he had a moment that will forever live in college basketball history. Kudos to him!

Grayson is different just because he is, was and will always be more talented than Luke. That isn't the right comparison to make talent wise at least. I see what you're saying in terms of role though.

The comparison would be if Justin Robinson came off the bench all season and sparked Duke to a Final Four. That would be a sight to behold.

He sums up what college basketball is. Work, work, work, succeed. Hats off to him and the coaching staff.

This Final Four is so appropriate because all season it's been about freshmen, freshmen, freshmen. And now look at the amount of junior and senior year talent in the Finals.

From ripping Maye the entire year to wanting the kid at Duke..... my gosh!!! Roy can have the Luke Mayes... props to Luke AND Roy for having his team and kids well prepared and executing. But I'm far from envious of the UNC way, everybody remember K has two banners and made UNC his ***** since 09!!!

Settle folks, give credit where due, but there isn't a damn Duke fan on this earth that should be jealous of a SINGLE thing UNC has

We have such a short memory as fans. So many on this board were killing K for not landing top talent. If we had Maye in 2009 our fans would be ripping him and already preparing for an incoming freshman to take his minutes.

UNC is having a great run for 2-years because kids developed. UNC has had a bunch of those years and so has/will Duke. Coach gets too much credit and blame for winning/losing.

Damn good post, WIDukie. Everyone is caught up in the moment, but I'll take Duke's (and K's) past, present, and future). Whatever happens, I know it's been did the right way (so far), instead of the Carolina Way.

I don't think any Duke fan would trade K for Roy. Fact is though, no one is perfect and everyone can improve at their profession. My opinion is we wouldn't have so many transfers if K would just throw 4 and 5 star recruits a bone every now and then to keep them interested. Are you telling me that Semi couldn't have contributed more for us? This is not the 80's and 90's anymore. You have to play your bench players these days.

Totally agreed K could do a better job keeping guys interested and a part of things. We get top talent, and top talent can produce when repeatedly given the chance. To me the bottom line to some of Dukes early exits is Length, toughness and Defense! Every single sweet 16 team played defense entirely better then Duke ever did all year. Duke needs to get back to tenacious defense!!

I agree wholeheartedly on THE DEFENSE! Its been lacking since '15.....No one references it much, but think of the staff K had w/Collins,Capel and Wojo...No question we have a fine group now, but man thats a transition....OFC
