I remember watching Josh his junior year of high school and thinking, "this kid has a long ways to go to ever being a significant contributor at Duke." And he never made it.

But with Josh, I think a lot of kids could learn from him. He was the definition of being a great teammate, captain and hard-worker. I'd love to see a Marques with his drive and determination. Say what you will about Josh, but he got everything out of himself and more....and it didn't amount to much eye-popping kind of stuff.

I somewhat disagree. I call Josh Hairston starting a third of Duke's games his senior year purposeless stubbornness. You mean to tell me that Hairston should have been getting more playing time than Semi Ojeleye? I think K has his favorites and he rides them too much. Having favorites is fine as most do. I just think he takes it too far and that is the reason we have more transfers than anyone else. Why can't he throw some of the bench players a bone every now and then to keep them engaged?
My main beef was with your representing it like some character flaw, like K sees it the same way you do but refuses to do the only logical thing as you see it b/c of some character flaw.

Again, he is principled. It's fine for you to have different principles, or different priorities or different pecking order among similar principles, but I dislike that you come across as characterizing it as something more contemptible.

Josh Hairston never became the contributor any of us hoped for. As a senior, he still didn't offer a lot by way of stats, but he was smart. He knew the system. If he played poorly, it wasn't b/c he played dumb. Semi was pretty lost as a freshman. If the best we could really hope for was for someone to stay out of Jabari's way -- and unfortunately, that was the best we could hope for on the court for that season -- Josh was the obvious choice. Still, as pointed out, he averaged fewer than 10 minutes per game, less than half the PT sophomore Amile Jefferson got, so it's not like Josh was some untouchable teacher's pet who could do no wrong. He wasn't Dudley Dursley, for cryin' out loud.

I believe all of what you said as I am sure you know more of the facts on Semi than me. However, take Semi out of the equation. My point is that Hairston should never have been getting those type of minutes. At the very least, rotate him in with Semi or even Alex Murphy. But that is what K does. If you are one of his favorites and a senior, you are going to get your minutes no matter what.
See, this is asinine. You think the GOAT plays people b/c they're his favorites first, as opposed to the best options becoming his favorites? I just referenced teacher's pets as a trope. In truth, misbehaving kids with bad attitudes often don't understand that the teacher's pet earned the privileges they received b/c they did other things right. Were you that other type of student?

After making an All-ACC team his junior year, Greg Paulus' PT dropped by 11 minutes per game his senior year. Oh, was that b/c he wasn't K's favorite? He was a senior... but not a favorite? So his minutes dropped b/c of some arbitrary prejudice on K's part? Or was it b/c he'd taken us as far as he could and K knew our best hope was to try Jon and Nolan at the point the bulk of the time? Is K a genius only when he agrees w/ you and completely incompetent when he disagrees w/ you? Or is it that he's always a genius, and the difference is that when he agrees w/ you he's noble and righteous, but when he disagrees w/ you he's suddenly this horribly flawed person w/ low character?

I just never saw Josh as much more of a threat beyond drawing charges. Loved the guy though, excellent role model for our youth as hard worker.

I know Josh's uncle. He lives in Winston Salem. He used to deliver counter tops where I worked. We talked about Josh a lot. About his junior year I ask him did Josh talk much about pt. He said not a lot. He knew his role at Duke and understood it. He said Josh was more excited about getting a degree from Duke University. If Duke had never recruited him that would never have happened. The way I look at it Josh took advantage of the opportunity he was given and now has something not many people get. He also gets to play pro ball in Europe. Josh Hairston will always be successful and Duke needs players like him every season. OFC

Definitely a good guy to have on a team for morale, practice and occasional spot duty....
If he wants PT more suited to a mid major.

Luke seems to have been exposed yesterday. I for one relish the thought that he could forced to play 25 + mpg next year and be subject to a scouting report
