MA at ES V FB cancelled

Really hate this for both schools. Biggest rivalry game in Surry County, biggest gate revenue for the school, all undone by Covid. I can’t wait until this mess is gone and we can get back to a regular, normal life!
My best guess is that something manifested itself with a player or coach yesterday morning (symptoms wise), which led to testing. This probably snowballed downhill after that - contact tracing, quarantining, calling off the game. That could be wrong, but I guarantee no one at that school wanted to cancel the game. Big gate, rivalry game, outside TV crew coming in….anyone who suggests that ES knew well ahead of time the game wouldn’t be played and intentionally waited late to cancel it is an idiot who has no clue about the logistics of the situation. They probably did everything possible to keep the game on.
Not necessarily true. We’ve seen plenty of schools and situations so far this season where one was cancelled due to Covid (either JV or V) but the other was played. Many teams are practicing the kids separately and not working JV/V kids in the same groups or not doing any 8 quarter overlapping with JV kids to give the best chance of avoiding cross contamination and BOTH groups being shut down. Early Friday morning no one at East thought the game WOULDN’T be played. It wasn’t until later in the day that things began to quickly spiral downhill.
Keep us posted…. Lot of eyes on Draughn…. Since Hughes said they could possibly be a top ten 1a team.Yet here we are!!!!!!! MA @ Draughn HS gos

I'm talking about ES JV players. ES jv cancelled bc of covid. So team would be quarantined and not suppose to be at game.
Entire JV team wouldn't have to quarantine, just those with continuous direct contact with the impacted athletes (ex: position group). Great game by MA on Saturday v. Draughn. Good luck to the Bears the rest of the season. Really hate that ES and MA couldn't square off - I think MA had the advantage and was favored, but would love to have seen where each team stood at this point in the season by going against one another. Again...I can't WAIT until this Covid mess is over with!
