It's finally here! Conference play starts in earnest this week while there is still a nonconference game. Time to separate the contenders from the pretenders!

Asheville @ North Davidson- The lone non-conference game sees Asheville traveling halfway across the state to face 2-3 North Davidson. Asheville beat them 54-0 last season but this year's game should be a bit closer. Asheville is still the favorite and should smother them wth their tough defense.

Asheville 34
North Davidson 13

Enka @ Erwin- This is a must-win game for both teams already for playoff purposes. Realistically only one of these teams will make the playoffs and it will likely be the winner of this game unless there are major upsets elsewhere. Erwin was down big before coming back to beat Brevard while Enka blew out hapless Rosman. This should be a close game but Erwin has just enough offensive weapons to squeak by at home.

Erwin 34
Enka 28

North Buncombe @ Reynolds- Nort much to say about this one except it will be a good chance for Reynolds to get the bad taste of last week out of their mouths and their backups should play extensively.

Reynolds 55
North Buncombe 0

McDowell @ TC Roberson- This is yet another huge game for both teams that has playoff implications. TC has been steadily improving after being blown out by Watauga and McDowell has been playing pretty well beating teams they should beat. McDowell is a little banged up- their starting RB was out last week and may not return anytime soon. The backup is pretty good (ran for over 200 last week) and is probably the best player on the team even though he's only a sophomore. I expect a close game but TC should have too much defense for McDowell to outscore them.

TC Roberson 21
McDowell 14

Power Rankings

1. Reynolds
2. Asheville
3, Roberson
4. McDowell
5. Erwin
6. Enka
7. North Buncombe

All right let’s do this conference thing! Here are my guesses…..

Asheville - 28
N Davidson - 13

Erwin - 17
Enka - 13

AC Reynolds - 52
N Buncombe - 7

TC Roberson - 30
McDowell - 13

Two of the three conference games are definitely huge, I feel Erwin and TCR both will have too many athletes to lose these games. As for Asheville, I am sure their superior defense wins this game. My guys ( ACR) have two weeks to get healthy before Asheville comes to town. I feel NB this week and Enka next week will allow us to play some second string guys and allow us to heal up as we came out of the game last week with some injuries to some key players. Good luck to all and I hope everyone stays healthy!

Roberson may well have too many athletes but keep in mind McDowell did beat them last season 16-6 although Roberson seems improved. McDowell will try and use their power running game and control the clock. Roberson runs the triple option which McDowell has seen in week 1 and had trouble with so it could be a higher-scoring game.

Trust me being from ACR I’m all for McDowell winning this game and if they can control the clock they just might, I just don’t think they will stop TCR enough to win.

All I can say is the most exciting thing about our game was the school record 3 safeties our defense recorded in the 2nd quarter. I feel bad for NB, they are very bad, not sure they ever reached their own 40 yard line. We did pass a little more tonight to work on some different sets. Next up an improved Enka, looking forward to seeing them.

Roberson is definitely improved but McDowell did not play well in the 2nd half. It was 28-20 late in the third and Roberson just kept pitching it wide and McDowell couldn’t stop the speed. Have to say Roberson was very undisciplined and lots of cheap shots and chirping. Reynolds will humble them soon enough.

McDowell QB was injured on a nasty personal foul. There were at least 5 personal fouls/ unsportsmanlike penalties on Roberson. Their coach was out on the field complaining half the 4th quarter. They seemed to have a high opinion of themselves

Every time we play TCR it’s exactly like you just described. Obviously they are a huge rival of ours but it goes overboard every year.

Asheville 29-15 over North Davidson. Dominant 4th quarter and even took a knee at the 2 yard line with under a minute to go.
