Went to bat for RU than hammered us for losing to Hofstra.

Usually a good indicator that the national Primetime sports shows will carry the same topic. Ugh

We went for bat for us yes and we let him down. His segment was on the committee he highlighted Clemson beating NC State 3 times and being left out. He thought Nevada was a joke. He said I want to support Rutgers for being left out and still believes they should be in but you lost to Hofstra at home. He was going to give us good air time on the most watched sports talk show and we let him down. Thanks Dog for the consideration

Off-topic, but is this the same "Mad Dog" that was on New York sports radio in the late eighties and early nineties? I think he was paired with, darn, can't remember his name. He had a high, rabid-sounding voice that made one think he was about to go postal? (I think his name might have been Russo)...

It sucks but no one cares about the NIT. I struggled with the Minnesota and NW loses. I felt bad for the team after last night’s loss but personally I hardly cared. It’s a ******** tournament.

Hats off to MD Russo, he found a niche where he is somebody in the sports world, and yes he is correct to point out our NCAA snub and to point out our deflating loss last night.

what I would like to see is MD Russo play Carino (BTW I wonder if little Jerry heard imaginary boos last night) in a game of 1 on 1. I would pay to see it. I listened toMike and the Mad Dog back in the 80’s and I assure you he is a 1 or 2 on the 10 point scale of athleticism.

On air he was talking about his hoops game and having a decent turn around corner jumper (implying via his bully pulpit that he was a player). Then his radio team played at half time of a NETs game that I attended. He was absurdly un-athletic, like knee high black socks and running shoes on a basketball court un-athletic. It was a JOKE. Clearly he was at best an average REC player. I would have mentioned Mike (Francesa) and his lack of athleticism, but climbing a flight of stairs is an achievement for him.

Back to the 1 on 1 game… Carino, as I understand it ran track at shu… but he strikes me as a dribble with 2 hands and jump over the foul line type of player. Alas, even chihuahuas have some speed so my money would be on Jerry in the 1 on 1 game.

I share this in jest, but also to point out the irony of how much sway these non-athletes have via their media platforms. On the one hand they have the microphones and the pen, but on the other they have zero competitive hoops experience.

Just saying…

Of course he would, because he’s a shock jock.

Last nights game should have nothing to do with getting snubbed in the tournament. It was a freakin NIT game.

Clemson also lost and Okie State won narrowly.

Teams that were snubbed don't get up for the NIT.

Meanwhile Nevada yesterday demonstrated amply how clueless the committee is. At least if it was Okie State over us it'd make a little more sense.

If you like Russo and you haven't seen Russo with Stephen A, you should watch them.
It's amazing.

It shouldn’t but the people who were responsible for the snubbing are most probably thinking they were spot on .

Clemson lost in NIT too.
NIT performances are in no way an indicator, & are irrelevant as they are after the fact, as to whether a team should have been selected for the NCAA.
Self-serving answer, and wrong. While NCAA at-large selection is subjective, teams in are almost always better than teams not in. The Hoftsra loss suggests Rutgers did not belong in the 68. It’s a cop out to blame the loss on lack of motivation. It could just as easily be said the team would be more motivated to prove they should have been picked. And it was a home game with a big crowd.

Also, does anyone think it’s certain we would have beaten Hofstra a week ago before the NCAA tourney was set ?

Sorry, Rutgers was better than Boise St and Nevada and probably just as good as some of the at-larges. Did you watch the Northwestern - Boise St. game?

Counter argument, both Rutgers and Hofstra belonged in the field of 68 .. RU over putrid Nevada and Hofstra if they got a bounce in OT of their league final after dominating the CAA .. and definitely more deserving than a team like Texas Southern with a losing record .. total joke that should be a rule where if you’re already a scrub Conference and your t tourney champ doesn’t have a winning record you don’t get a bid to compete for a national championship

Not comparing to conference tourney champs, but that doesn’t change the #s in your example since a 1 bid league.
