Weirdness, Part I.
Three AAA districts because, if rumor has it, they're throwing a bone at schools who don't want to travel far such as Oak Forest Academy of Amite, Louisiana which apparently has made noises about joining the LHSAA if they have to travel to Jackson for district games. Travel became a factor for other AAA schools in recent classification cycles. Oh, and there are still Division I & II in AAA & with two D I in each district making me wonder if all AAA I teams will qualify for playoffs.
Other interesting moves: Columbia, which I'm sure PCS welcomes as Columbia had long been a frequent opponent prior to their move to AAA. Lamar also moves back to AAA and they get to be in a district with East Rankin, Hillcrest, JA, and Prep.
Weirdness, Part II.
AA is being divided in Divisions I & II which is just as well since there's at least one 8-man football playing school (Russell Christian) that moved up in classification to AA, D-II. Also, Hartfield (the former University Christian) is moving back to MAIS from the MHSAA.
Other interesting moves: Ben's Ford Christian, Winona Christian, Park Place Christian, Tri-County, Prentiss Christian, and Amite School all move up from A. I suspect the folks at Park Place knew it would happen which is why they started playing 11-man football in 2011. Ben's Ford was a recent 8-man football participant in A so I suspect they made the move to 11-man for similar reasons. I wonder how Russell Christian will react. Also, Wayne Academy stays in AA, which is something I didn't expect but given AA's expansion-- perhaps not too surprising.
Weirdness, Part III.
Five 11-man football playing districts for 25 schools makes for weird playoff brackets but there is a certain geographic sense to it.
Moves I've noticed: Immanuel Christian, Marshall Academy, and Sylva-Bay Academy move down to A. I don't remember Marshall ever being in A. I always considered them solidly in AA. Also, Briarfield moves from 8-man to 11-man football. Chamberlain-Hunt will be playing 11-man football in 2013 after an absence of a few years.
Weirdness, Part IV.
Seeing Mt. Salus & Clinton Christian in the same districts in football and in all-sports. Which of course shouldn't be weird but I'd long been amused that they had been in separate districts since Clinton Christian was created.
