They don't/can't/won't play defense. cal's teams are usually playing good defense by the time sec play starts.
Something is wrong with this team and i don't know if cal can fix it. i hope he can.

It's mainly a lack of a rim protector.
The guards can't play off of their man or it's a nearly uncontested shot and they can't get up in their jersey or it's a nearly uncontested shot at the rim.

I figure his buddy on the Florida team was jaw jacking at him and he was smiling and giving it back to him.

I don't know, I doubt he thought losing was funny. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe he did.

But I'm having a hard time getting worked up over it.
Apparently, the UF fans were singing "Happy Birthday" to him at the moment. Optics might be bad but that he cares is obvious to me because of the way he usually shows up in the big games; ie. without Monk UNC game is a loss.

So, him laughing on the bench translates to doesn't care about the team only himself?
No, him doing nothing but score translates to doesn't care about the team. And its been that way all year. No rebounding, no assists, Charmin soft defense. Not saying to bench him but OP is dead right in that he doesn't give 2 ***** about Kentucky.

May seem extreme, but he clearly does not care one bit about playing for the team. He just wants to make it to draft day and move on. Fine, but let's move on now and put someone in who actually gives a damn. This team is finished either way. I'd rather watch someone who gives everything...
Do you like strippers? There's this team up the road...........They take rejects from other programs also.......

I'd much rather see Brad. I played high level division 1 sports. I know all to well that a player like that kills a team. Especially when it's your best player. What you saw today only happens when the players don't like each other and become indifferent. He has quit on his team.
If you would rather see Brad play then you were a stupid D 1 athlete. Must have been when they could admit anyone.

Wonder how may of the fans who are complaining are the same ones who left early last Saturday against Kansas. They must not care either :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Usually this kind of stuff just stands out to us. :grimace:

This probably irritates me more than anything that happened in the game last night. Basically because it shows the overall attitude that Monk has as a player. I would hope he would be sick at his stomach over the loss and trying to figure out what he could do to better help the team. Time to go punch my punching bag!

I agree on how it can impact a team. A divisive "toxic" player, no matter how good, can infect a team beyond repair. Especially, a leader and great player, it is even worse because it has more gravity and influence.

Bad look. Just reinforces the national perception that these OAD players don't really care about winning. I don't care if it was his birthday and they were singing to him, your TEAM is getting drilled and you are laughing. I really like Monk. Seems like a happy go lucky kid, but this relfects bad on him and Cal.

I agree that a non athletic 3 is not helping this team, but Cal is not going to change it. His goal is to get as many guys to the NBA, drafted as high as possible, and as soon as possible.

He is hell-bent on winning with freshmen to try and prove a point his way is the best way. The next group of 5* talent sees that Cal wont bench them, he will showcase them, and thus the perpetual monster is fed. Cal's worse nightmare is to have too many Briscoes (projected one and done that don't pan out), it backs up the pipeline, and he has to flush them out to NBA in some fashion. He is losing 7 players off this team minimum.

Matt Jones said the student section was singing Happy Birthday to him at the time is why he was laughing, but given the score at the time it was still a bad look.

If you can't like Briscoe and understand the role he is being forced to assume then you don't understand basketball. In a football sense it's like taking a wide receiver and forcing him to play linebacker because you don't have any linebackers worth a damn.
I understand that when Briscoe has the ball the other four stand and watch because the ball has gone into a black hole

Be interesting to see how Cal reacts to this.
If Cal doesn't that shows how, much he understands the UK fan base....I don't care what the teams record is ......behavior like that is ridiculous....and if there was any real leadership on the team then it wouldn't happen

Briscoe

Just don't know what to make of him. he can score triple doubles and, honestly, I'm going to be glad when he's gone. I don't hate him and I'm glad he's getting to play where he wants and all, but it's work watching him and wondering what's going to happen. I'm ready for consistent guards again.

I've said all year that we'll go as far as Fox and Monk take us. Not that that's particularly earth shattering.

Briscoe needs to be the third wheel on this tricycle. Does he know that? Does Cal?

I admit; it's painful. I'm rooting for the guy, but when you lose to Kansas and then tell reporters you were 20 points better than Kansas - hard to root for that guy.

Admittedly, I don't root for a guy like that if he plays for another team.

Briscoe needs to be backing up Fox. It's not going to happen, but everyone with two eyes and without an agenda can see this. Bilas was hinting at as much during the game. He may be our best player available to put at the 3 but that doesn't mean we are our best team with him at the 3. It becomes very predictable and defendable.

It'll be a damn shame that with talent like Monk, Fox, and Bam, we're going to go home first weekend with Briscoe taking this many shots game in and game out. He's a role player and an opportunist, not a play maker or go to guy. Cal must reevaluate and redefine roles to better suit the team or the losses are going to keep coming.

Yeah. That's how it went down. Not the best look regardless. But monk also is one of those ppl who even when he is "straight faced" he looks like he's smiling so the slightest smile or chuckle looks huge. He isn't a Harrison that has a natural scorn and gets accused of a "bad attitude". He's the other extreme.

Briscoe gets more rebounds because he is in most of the game. Although I like his toughness rebounding, I like it as a point guard. Either way, this team needs to get more gritty. They are not tough enough inside.
12th. They have no to bring in to get tougher....I agree we need some toughness inside but who?....just the team we have right now

There were several games before we went on our slide where he played beautifully in the half court as he was not even looking at the goal. He was often around the foul-line, looking to distribute. That's totally gone now. I'm hoping it comes back once every one is fully healthy. Love Briscoe's effort, but we will NOT get to a final 4 if he's averaging more than 5 shots a game. It simply will never happen.

Those of you that think nothing is wrong with this probably never played competitive basketball before. I was on the wrong end of a few blow outs and none of us were laughing on the bench, especially us starters after we were took out. Grevey, Givens, Macy, Bowie, Walker, Chapman, nor Mashburn would act like that. It made me sick, I would have given anything to play at U.K. and to see guys act like that just did something to me. No excuse even if it was his birthday.
