With Christmas upon us, we really do not want to blow you both out of the water….but hey, that is what we do, so here goes.
nepsy, the premise on which you base your entire outrage against us is TOTALLY FALSE .
Do you even know what a premise is?
We have absolutely no reason or desire to make the Shelby Golden Lions “relevant with 4A football in NC”. Do you understand that statement?
You are quick to call others liars, yet you lie to yourself and readers as you continually press that position. Just stop, please.
We have absolutely every reason and desire to represent the Shelby Golden Lions as the most successful, sustained, winning high school football program in North Carolina.
Period.
Do you understand that statement?
Across all classifications, all associations, all time. Historically and factually accurate.
No one’s opinion or poll.
Was 4A included in that statement, nepsy?
Yes, as was 1A, 2A, and 3A.
Was all of NCHSAA and WNCHSAA?
Yes, again.
The ONLY reason we post on other boards is when it is important enough to keep the record straight and when topics cross classifications or states as to historical reference to all of NC high school football.
nepsy, you and other Mallard Creek supporters, at the height of Creeks three peat in 13, 14 and 15, far too quickly began to claim Creek as the greatest program in NC history.
Well, we had something to say about that.
And it had nothing to do with any claim that Shelby should be 4A relevant and could beat MC at that point, despite Shelby being on its own 4 year run as Champs.
You and your tough guy 4A gang did not like us calling you to account on the “greatest program” claim, and immediately turned it into a “who could Shelby beat in 4A” debate so as to use your superior pool numbers to shut us up.
It was never about that…and you and your 4A gang know it. So do others that pile on in this nonsense for “ Shelby needs to prove itself versus top 4A” garbage. That includes btango and a moderator who, for whatever reason, choose to play ignorant of the origin of nepsy’s ongoing campaign.
Mallard Creek’s run only lasted three years, and has proven to be single player, single coach dependent. Far from historic. MC wasn’t even the best 4A program in the decade. Wake Forest was.
But nepsy still lives in the past. Disappointed with MC returning to the pack, he lashes out at anyone that journeys on to the 4A board from the other three classifications.
Meanwhile, the Shelby program keeps piling up Championship Titles, regardless of the head coach or a batch of new players.

Sorry, but I'm not believing you on this one. Had it been the Creek you'd be gloating it up and down this forum. You're just disappointed. We're finally getting the recognition we've deserved for 6 decades...60 years.
The recruiters are stopping by on a more regular basis and realizing just how special Shelby and Cleveland County as a whole is.
You said Langston did it merely as a means to sell copies. Do you recall that we are only a few years removed from when the Charlotte Observer decided to leave Cleveland County out of the Sweet 16 polling. Why? Because we usually took up at least 3 of the 16 spots. Your Charlotte coaches didn't like that....did they? My subscription? $0. All I needed was to see the title of the article....to see that 2A Shelby is the best football team in the Charlotte area this year....better than all 1A, 2A, 3A and even your 4A schools. And this year....I believe it.
I saw were a couple of Shelby fans are calling you Guys out on the 2A board. Embarrassment is what they called you guys. Be a man! Go back down there and defend yourselves. No means No! Stop trolling!
For that matter. One of the best runs I remember is when Independence seemed just impossible to stop. But all good runs will end or slow down.
The Sweet 16 was never to appoint the “best” team in the Observer area. This year shows that with ranking Forestview at 16, Cabarrus Warriors 11th, and Maiden at six. It is what team had the most impressive season based on their competition level. The rankings during the season are based heavily on what team has the best chance to win their classification. Seasons win Albemarle was state 1AA champions and second in the Sweet Sixteen. Don’t think they are beating are a lot of teams ranked behind them.
That explanation is on the money, and so clear that any normal person should be able to understand it.
First time I've EVER heard this. Pretty sure that was not in the criteria that Langston said the Sweet 16 was based on. Can someone show us where Langston indeed said what the Sweet 16 criteria is?
Shelby has won 7 of the last 9 state championships but this is their first Sweet 16 championship. Why? You're saying some of those previous 6 state championships they weren't "the best chance to win their classification?" Would you bet on Shelby to win 2A every year or a Charlotte team to win 4A every year?
But what is not clear is what motivates btango to jump in here at all?

Of course not.
btango has taken on his mission to diminish any and all of the successes of the Golden Lions.
He has done this for years, yet never identifies his rub on Shelby, nor what gives us any reason to see his opinions and comments as anything but bias.
We exposed his negativity on Shelby years ago, and took him to task on misinformation and unfounded reasons to challenge the Golden Lions stature in NC football.
We left him silenced and exposed then.
But it looks like we may have to do it again.
His emotional pleas recently for Shelby to play up two classifications against the best of 4A is not a genuine interest in such matchups.
He wants us to get clobbered. It oozes from his posts
Yet he knows our history against big 4A schools better than most.
He will claim no bias, yet a historic read on his posts concerning Shelby are perfectly clear.
Maybe he played against Shelby as a youth and got earholed and laughed at. We have no idea where he played, coached etc. as he painfully moves to hide his credentials. Why? Nobody else on here does.
We hope he backs off. He has most of you fooled. He should want to keep it that way.
I can assure you that is exactly what he and I have discussed. It is based on factors such as what team does the best against their competition level, what team has the most impressive season, et al. Fair to say Shelby had the most impressive season. Really no other team in the area had a very impressive season.
How teams would stack up against each other has something to do with it but if Chambers would have won the 4A state but lost two or three games they would have been behind Shelby. If Maiden would have went undefeated and won the state title this year I can assure you they would have been number one.
If Indy loses in 2002 I expect Albemarle with anm undefeated 1AA title gets the nod.
This past spring Salisbury was 9-2 and one spot above Hough. Do you think Salisbury beats Hough?
My posts are nothing more than jousting with you not Shelby, the team, school, or town which I have no issue with.

I can assure you I have not shown any emotion regarding high school sports. My only reason to request Shelby to play an elite 4A team is because of your posts and statements especially on the 4A board with your veiled claims of superiority over all. Shelby is a great program and football there is special but they have not beaten an elite 4A team in decades. That is fine. I wrote that I agreed with Lance not taking the Vance (aka Chambers) game a few years ago.
Never played Shelby, but have seen a Shelby team play at least once each of the last five decades.. Played? Who said I played. Coached? Just an observer.

AS A PROGRAM.
We post on all boards as needed to make sure that is understood.
Why? Because it is the truth. Factually and historically. No opinions, no polls.
And no 4A program that happens to have a three-peat or even a seven-peat or any other program that starts to stack a few Titles together in a given decade will be allowed to go unchallenged and claim what is not theirs.
Get it?
If that offends you on some personal level, deal with it. That is your problem.
In a given year, that Golden Lions team may truly be better than the best in 3A or 4A.
But we will never know.
In another given year, a Shelby team may not be better than the best in 1A.
That proves nothing. Classifications exist for a reason.
Shelby does have a dominant record of winning over upper classification teams.
Shelby’s winning percentage in its own class of 2A is over 93%. 4A Richmond County claims the state’s highest winning percentage around 80%, but they never play up. We may have passed them now.
What if Shelby never played up?
We have never claimed, veiled or otherwise, that Shelby would dominate the best in 4A on a regular basis year to year. You know that and others on the 4A board know it to.
But y’all insist on turning the Shelby program superiority into a claim of year to year team superiority over elite 4A, a claim we have never made.
We challenge you to prove that we have ever made that claim.

It just cracks me up and while I have zero evidence to back this up I suspect if I was going to ask the HC, AD or even the vast majority of the fans if you spoke for them they would laugh and tell me what I already know...........You are a nut job.

It depends on the program. If we are talking about G’boro Dudley, Scotland, Charlotte Catholic, New Bern, Hough, Myers Park, Butler, Mallard Creek, Chambers, Richmond Sr. Heck Noooooooo! But some of the lower tier teams I can see Shelby beating some of those schools.
Richmond Sr. Never play up! Hmmmm is there another classification in N.C. that I am not aware of. 4A in NC is the biggest classification, man please go back to the 2A boards and brag on Shelby for about 8 more months or just schedule one of the Big Dawgs from 3A/4A until then please stay on the porch. Notice how they only show up at times when the 4A favorites get upset. Seems to me they think they are the best because the 4A winners are "weaker". If Chambers would have won big against Gibbons, they wouldn't be on here trying to persuade everyone of how great they think they are, because the argument against it would be that Chambers would smoke them. This is only an argument when Shelby is up, and when the state is perceived to be weak at the top. In any given year where the 4A Champ is strong, Shelby is no where in the conversation of the best. My take, is that Gibbons, Chambers, Hough, and Dudley are all better than Shelby right now, and you can probably add a few more teams in there too.. EF, Richmond, etc.
