Maybe he also saw there was zero reason to vote against him and didn't buy into the ******** childish games the rest of his party played with the nomination.

My guess is that he would vote with Dems if it fit his agenda. He is running for reelection. His support for the execrable Harry Reid was appalling. His lack of fighting Obama's EPA hugely disappointing. He will do what he thinks he needs to do for reelection and then return to the Dem camp and ideology.

He needs to switch parties.

It isn't necessarily the Parties, it is the mindset of the people in the parties. Past years of disagreement, dissention and refusal to compromise has led "We The People" down the road leading to the destruction of this great country we call home. Sad thing is, it happens no matter which party is at the helm. Congress should be working to ensure governance works for all and not just a particular subset.
