Turner got more than enough time. Derp derp derpHe has lost weight (in case you didn't know). While his looks may not have helped, he was fired b/c some fans/boosters thought his discipline approach was harsh (he made a kid crabwalk on the fieldturf during a hot summer day as punishment for breaking rules) and that he wasn't a very good PR rep for the university (he once got tossed out of a local HS game that his kid's was playing in by the refs, rarely did booster events, didn't recruit that hard, etc.).
You are correct that he is the only coach EVER to make KU football even remotely successful. As you likely are aware of too, he's a Youngstown guy...
The way KU handled this was bad and the moves they made afterward (not giving Turner the proper time, then paying Weis huge dough, and now back to a Mangino assistant) aren't showing any positive results either.
Mangino had one magic season, when Ron Prince was in Manhattan. He was 1-4 v. Bill Snyder.
So I should just forget about that National Title while Oklahoma's Offensive Coordinator? Any guy that can take Kansas football to the heights that I saw Kansas get to, including winning a BCS bowl against Virginia Tech, has my respect.
Your threshold is very low.
I think the word you are looking for is "standard." Regardless, this would be less painful for you if you would just admit that you didn't know much about Mangino's background before posting what you did about him.

Dude, he coached at K-State and Ku not Omaha or Fremont.
Did 'we' once again forget about the National Championship as the OC at Oklahoma?![]()
Gene Chizik.
Did Gene Chizik not have talent at Auburn? How much talent does KU generally get? Other than Glen Mason and Mangino, no one does anything worth mention at KU.
If you knew more about him and his past you would not respect him. Mangino has many skeletons in his closet. The only reason he wasn't in jail was because he was the coach at Kansas at the time. If any of us had similar off field issues we would have spent time behind bars. Not only is he an a$$hole who has a difficult time getting along with people but he also has an explosive temper. His temper has gotten him into many situations that have not been reported by the media. KU did a good job keeping it quiet and out of the press. He was an embarrassment to the program and KU needed to fire him. Yes he could win some games but that was it. His asst coaches did not like him, the players didn't respect him, administration hated dealing with him, AD was embarrassed by his behavior, boosters were concerned about the image of KU....... he was a walking asshat that deserved to be fired. People make fun of Carl Pelini for off field issues, well Mangino's off-field issues are 10 times worse than Carl's. No former Husker Coach has had more off field trouble than Mangino. Think of all the things the former Husker Coaches have been accused of, and they pale in comparison. I would be surprised if any reputable college will give Mangino a job.So I should just forget about that National Title while Oklahoma's Offensive Coordinator? Kaz, Carl, Sanders, Bo. All sounds familiar. If you knew more about him and his past you would not respect him. Mangino has many skeletons in his closet. they sound familiar but they don't hold a candle to Mangino when it comes to trouble with the lawKaz, Carl, Sanders, Bo. All sounds familiar.
I think you underestimate what you think you know.they sound familiar but they don't hold a candle to Mangino when it comes to trouble with the law
I know plenty about Mangino and his escapades. Way too many of them. Heard the stories from friends who are in the Lawrence Police Department. Also the former Athletic Director Lew Perkins lived 2 houses down from Mangino. So as a neighbor and his boss it is safe to say that Lew knew what was going on in Mangino's life. Plus his Asst Coaches did not like him and if you got to know them they have no problem bashing him after a couple beers. Just saying that there are lots of quality people who are good coaches so there is no need to sell your soul and hire someone like Mangino. I know some really nice people at KU and not one of them has anything good to say about himYoungstown represent!!!
