Don’t know if others are following, but he’s batting .400. 4-10, so it’s a small sample, but he started 0-4 and has been 4-6 since. Only one walk but only one strikeout. A double and an RBI but no other extra base hits.
If he doesn't make the opening day roster this year, do the Rays have to make him available to other teams? Did I dream of somebody saying that?He hit .375 in spring training last year. The Rays (like more than a few MLB teams) haven’t been interested in fielding their best possible team in the moment, and keep chasing future payoffs and “next gen” stats.
Maybe Jake’s numbers will reach the tipping point where they can’t ignore him any longer.
I don't think that's the way it works. They protected him from the Rule 5 draft by adding him to the 40-man roster. As long as they keep him there, he's protected. If they take him off for anything besides an injury, other teams will get a chance to grab him not long after. If he doesn't make the opening day roster this year, do the Rays have to make him available to other teams? I think the rays still have 5 times they can option him down to the minors before he is eligible for waivers. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him play in the pros this year but I doubt he’s on the initial mlb roster. If he doesn't make the opening day roster this year, do the Rays have to make him available to other teams? Got interested enough to look it up, and I think since Mangum has five full years of service, he has to consent to be optioned back to the minors, and otherwise he goes through the waiver process. That's 3 minutes of research though so wouldn't bet the farm on it being right.I think the rays still have 5 times they can option him down to the minors before he is eligible for waivers. 3 minutes of research is the SPS equivalent to a PhDGot interested enough to look it up, and I think since Mangum has five full years of service, he has to consent to be optioned back to the minors, and otherwise he goes through the waiver process.
