(May 29, 2019)</strong> – West Virginia University junior right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah has been named a finalist for National Pitcher of the Year, presented by the College Baseball Foundation, on Wednesday.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Manoah is the second Mountaineer in program history to be named a finalist by the organization, with left-hander Harrison Musgrave being recognized in 2013.</p><p></p><p></p><p>The 2019 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, Manoah is having one of the most impressive seasons in program history. Today’s accolade is the latest in a long list of awards for the Miami, Florida, native. He is a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award and is the first player in Big 12 history to be named Pitcher of the Week three consecutive weeks and the fourth to earn weekly honors four times in a season. An All-Big 12 First Team honoree, Manoah also was the NCBWA Pitcher of the Month for April, a two-time NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week and the first player to ever earn the Golden Spikes Award/<a href="http://d1baseball.com/">D1Baseball.com</a> Performance of the Week award three consecutive weeks.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Statistically, Manoah ranks No. 5 in the country in strikeouts (135), No. 10 in WHIP (0.88), No. 17 in ERA (1.85), No. 19 in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.87), No. 21 in hits allowed per nine innings (5.89), No. 22 in wins (9), No. 24 in games started (15), No. 33 in strikeouts per nine innings (11.87), and No. 36 in complete games (2).</p><p></p><p></p><p>Manoah’s 135 strikeouts are a WVU record, while he is second with a 5.87 strikeout-to-walk ratio, tied for No. 6 with two shutouts and No. 9 with 11.70 strikeouts per nine innings.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Manoah and the Mountaineers play host to the 2019 NCAA Baseball Morgantown Regional, <a href="https://westvirginia.forums.rivals.com/x-apple-data-detectors://5">from May 31-June 2</a>, at <a href="https://westvirginia.forums.rivals.com/x-apple-data-detectors://6">Monongalia County Ballpark</a>.
