Esposito, I can see the argument. I guess fielding doesn't count. He fielded .918. Parks was .963

But the DH's? I think Parks should have definitely been in over them. I think that was there way of rewarding B. Johnson for being a good starting pitcher too.

Damn, Parks is the Rodney Dangerfield of this baseball season.

I think Parks' problem is nothing he does looks impressive. The guy doesn't look that good. He just simply gets it done. Batting average almost .400. OBP over .500. He is like the hitting version of Greg Maddux. Very unimpressive looking, but constantly gets it done. It makes him easy to overlook.

Edited again to add link to Marcello blog entry including reaction from Cohen.
And if you want to go with conference only stats:
Esposito hit .369 to Parks .358, but Parks OBP was .461 and Esposito wasn't in the top 12 which stopped at .435. Combine with with the miniscule 4 errors Parks committed compared to the 13 committed by Espositio and that's simply ridiculous to have Esposito on this team and not Parks.

Plus, MSU isn't a very flashy team. If Parks had done this and lead MSU to a 20-10 SEC record, a top 10 ranking, and we were about to host a regional, then Parks would be viewed differently. Combine that with the fact that he only has 3 or 4 HRs, and you have him being left off. Sometimes it seems like these types of awards are as much about pro potential as anything.

Having said that I think Parks deserves to be on the list somewhere.

and 1 HR in SEC games. Ryan Collins had 14 RBIs in SEC play, so did Jaron Shepherd. In fact, Shepherd hit 4 HRs and had a higher slugging percentage than Parks in conference games.

I like Parks and am glad we have him, but I doubt opposing coaches circled his name and said 'he ain't beating us.'

...but not a power hitter. I think he hit 3 HR all year. He played less than stellar defense at 3B. He didn't make a lot of errors, I think 4-5 all year. He had limited movement and didn't cover ground very well. I felt all season he was in the lineup just for his bat. There was a big hole between SS and 3B, and down the line, because he didn't react to a hit ball very well. I saw a lot of better defensive 3B's in the SS.

The stat relies way too much on what his teammates have done. The stat should not even be considering in evaluating which players are the best.

there was another runner on 2B. Parks was irrelevant. They would have walked anyone to set up the double play.

Parks (or any other hitter) has no control over whether there are baserunners on when he steps to the plate, or which bases they're on. A groundout can knock in a run, or a bases-empty triple can knock in none. Counting the total RBIs of a team can be useful, but it's pretty useless for an individual.<div>A bad hitter on a loaded team is going to have more RBIs than a great hitter on a terrible team.</div>
