The Colorado ruling by Judge Sweeney granted a TRO for athletes to get a 5th year of eligibility on July 31st.

Less than a month later the NCAA was just granted a Stay, ruling all those players ineligible while this continues to play out in court.

Why do you think the court in Kentucky would take months for the next appeal?

Because the Colorado one was a federal court of appeals. Kentucky case is state only. I appealed numerous times to the Kentucky court of appeals. Even if you request an expedited ruling, they take forever.

Could the make this rare exception? Its possible but would be an awful look considering how many custody and visitation cases they just let lay around forever.

Depends on the judge. But temporary orders are the easiest solution, bc it can be so easily overturned once the sides present their full cases.

You'd need a completely different court case to deal with Sankey and the SEC transfer rules.

The fun part is if you play a guy bc of a TRO granting him eligibility, and the he is later ruled ineligible, the NCAA can vacate your wins. So literally every game is a roll of the dice until the final court ruling.
No your wrong Tarheel they can't do that because of the Tro ,that Tro carries alot of weight ,I can tell you hate this ,but it won't be overturned with that Tro,The only problem would be transferring in conference, but they can beat that hurdle

Sounds like Kentucky courts have some issues that go well beyond this NCAA discussion.

Now you find out if the SEC is serious about enforcing their interconference transfer rule.

We already know the answer to that thanks to Aberdeen. Ahh nvm. you’re talking about the transfer portal rule that applies to all conferences not just the inter conference rule.

Sankey is powerless. He proved that when he let the tar heels off the hook for decades of cheating.

All going how it was expected to go weeks ago. He’ll enter the portal, commit to Kentucky, then we’ll wait to see what happens with this case and also cases nationally.

All the Kohler talk, SEC Greg Sankey fear mongering, etc was a nothing burger weeks ago and is a nothing burger today

Ok, that's why I posed it as a question rather than a statement of fact. Your emphatic reply implies you might know why it wasn't. Would you mind elaborating a bit? TIA
Kohler also had a TRO in California (at the state level) that passed granting eligibility. The Colorado one (federal) is the one that got the NCAA stay upheld. Currently he is still eligible because of California.

If the ruling gets overturned UK can be forced to vacate or forfeit any games in which Mitchell participates. That is how the NCAA works. Is it worth the risk?

So much smoke with Kentucky and Mitchell.

That means in the next couple days, we will start hearing that St John’s, Texas, Ohio State, Oregon, and UCLA are the front runners.

With Mitchell ultimately committing to North Carolina this coming Sunday or Monday.
UNC used our last open scholarship on a big man that was granted a 5th year by the Tennessee ruling. Also our fall semester started Monday. So no more scholarships, and no more time to enroll players.

Also, and I can't emphasize this enough, UNC is still adamant about not recruiting basketball transfers from dook.

It was a joke. I don’t follow UNC basketball comings and goings.

UK could just sue to drag it out. Even if the wins are vacated, it would be a long time from now. I think UMass still hangs their vacated Final Four banner.

This is my biggest concern at this point as well, assuming Mitchell is on his way to be a Cat.

Love how the unc fan is so scared of UK getting mitchell.
Since UNC-CHEATS lost the advantage of putting players on the Dean's List and granting them degrees without them ever attending classes or doing any work, they've become sticklers on the rules -- as they apply to other people. Biggest collection of phonies in sports history.

Such a weird time seeing UK fans excited about a temporary court ruling (not a final ruling) that allows them to recruit a former Duke player.
Tarheel basketball must suck for you need to constantly come here and troll.

TRO is based upon the Court’s determination that plaintiffs are likely to succeed in their case. Not a final order, but it legally restrains the NCAA from enforcing its rule excepting plaintiffs from play. The final determination may not come until after the season. Now, the NCAA may seek an interlocutory appeal and have the TRO overturned, but that has not yet happened in this case. I think UK needs to move forward as if this is the law and hope the NCAA relinquishes.

Other Courts of Appeal appear to be overturning the TROs (Ohio and Colorado - based on posts here).

Kohler got his eligibility from a California case. Not the Colorado case.
Thank you! I do remember that now but there seems to be conflicting info out there.

Here's link that specifically names the California case but contains a link in just the second paragraph, that very much implies it was the female judge in Colorado. Here's the article from espn.

And here's the link in the 2nd paragraph of that same article.

Are there examples of court TROs that were overturned and the school was punished? Threatening a school with a sanction should the school respect an order of the court would likely be viewed as a violation of a court order.

The Bediako scenario literally just months ago should ease folks fears about that angle

Not scared of that dookie at all. Just discussing the latest NCAA craziness.

I remember how Mitchell played at dook. I remember him running from the competition to the transfer portal, and ending up at a really terrible basketball program (Mizzou.)

Some recruits don't handle the bright lights and pressure very well. How will Mitchell handle the lights and pressure at UK, if he's ever allowed to play?

Just another thing I'm behind on. Was there another time limit players had to go to a sec school?
To transfer from one SEC school to another SEC school and be immediately eligible, a player must be in the portal by some date in April. This is a SEC rule that UK agreed to when it was implemented. I wasn't even aware of it until Greg Sankey hinted recently that he will still enforce this rule.

We've had this discussion before. I'm not trolling. I lived in Lexington as a child. When I got into basketball, UK was under a TV ban and a postseason ban, so I found someone else to cheer for. Then I moved, got older, and attended UNC. I have no issues with UK basketball. I have several UK grads in my family. I was in town 2 weeks ago. Messageboards are dying off, but this one still has a decent population so it's fun to converse here. I truly hope I don't have to remind you of all this again next month.

Isn’t it funny how Kentucky has gone about this like Jalen Washington went to Tennessee and Jordan pope went to Texas a&m and I’m sure they are already playing and practicing

That rule will 100% be challenged and they would win. I literally just read a tweet talking about that under anti trust grounds because the SEC would be acting as a monopoly restricting his movement and earning potential against a court order btw.

I know there are cases, like the 2008 Memphis vacated season, where the NCAA ruled a player (Rose) eligible (twice), then came back after the season and vacated it, but are there any cases where something was vacated in lieu of a judges order?

If those guys weren't in the portal by April, they should be subject to the same SEC rule.

Selective enforcement would give UK a very strong court case to overturn that SEC rule application to Mitchell.

Dude, you are trolling. Who cares where you once lived or your travel destinations? When you come and make snarky comments about UK fans’ excitement over the ruling, it’s classic trolling. Don’t pretend otherwise.
