Mark Stoops guaranteed compensation (for those who think he could be let go)

Big picture, Barnhart has done a tremendous job at Kentucky. He's the best athletics directory UK has ever had by far.

But yeah, the Stoops contract is nuts. How do you guarantee a guy that's never been a head coach before that much money? I mean, it would cost UK over $15 million right now IF they wanted to make a change.

GBB!!!
The funny thing is very few people on this board questioned that decision when it happened. And those who did were mocked and ridiculed and called fake fans.

Prime, you're probably right. I'm not a fan of guaranteed contracts to ANYBODY, much less to an unproven commodity.

As far as Stoops goes, I'm really surprised with the incompetence on the sideline. It's one thing to get shoved around by SEC fronts. It's another to put eight guys on a punt return unit or be unable to simply line up to kick a FG.

Bili Gillispie
Mark Stoops
Joker Phillips
was willing to retain Tubby 2007.

This is a great AD?

We deserve everything we get. At least Kentucky has plenty of Bourbon to get them through.

hilarious.

Becoming a UK coach is akin to winning a congressional seat. It pays you for life even if you suck at your job. Sign me up Barney!!

Barnhart has done a tremendous job.....for the rifle team, the volleyball team, the women's basketball team, etc. But when it comes to the two sports that really matter and generate the revenue (men's basketball and football), he has less than a stellar record of making good hires. Gillispie, Joker and now Stoops. That is 3 strikes and you're out as far as I'm concerned.

I watch college football every weekend all afternoon and night. It's pretty easy to spot well coached/poorly coached teams. It's obvious we aren't picking on our staff. They're just not a good staff. Get better quick or pick up your buyout check and kick rocks .

I was one that simply stated it would have been better to at least wait until season was over to fork out that much cash and for UK to have no buyout was all for Stoops vs. for UK....and was called a hater. Jauk11 was one of the leaders that was bashing away. Where you at now Jauk11?

The last contract extension and raise was absolutely unnecessary and rediculous. We are paying way over the market price for an unproven coach, and we didn't get the protection of a buyout in return. He did a great job landing Cal, but Barnhart badly mismanaged the Stoops contract negotiation.

I wish we still had reason to be afraid of Miami taking him away from us/ off our hands. The only way we're getting out from the hole we've dug is for some other school to do it for us in an act of charity.

I wasn't.

So are you on board the 'Fire Mitch' train, now? Or are you just popping up like a whackamole to take potshots at people?
Don't hold your breath waiting for a substantive post from Keyser.

He's a Mitch ballwasher and that's about it.

You were praising the extension at the time, maybe you should be fired.

That's a lie. I never praised a mid season extension. I was confused and didn't agree with it at all unless there was something I didn't know about(a team had offered him a job).

Pathetic to lie because the truth has nothin for your argument anymore. I have done some good around this site the past decade too. If I want to rightfully vent I shouldn't be lied about when I do it.

No need to respond. I won't see it.

Totally agree. Stoops is not a dumb guy, he's worked for some top programs but his in-game coaching wouldn't be tolerated in Pop Warner. SEC staffs are handing him his head, destroying the guy. It's a real puzzler.

In literally no other multi-million dollar enterprise could a CEO compile a record like Barnhart's and not be fired. It's getting ridiculous what this guy is putting our fanbase through. He better be thanking his lucky stars that Cal fell into his lap or he'd be lucky to be assistant AD at Transylvania U.
I think this garbage talk went on for Coach Brooks his first few years and he turned out fine. Hope stoops turns things around, he had some questionable coaching take place in this game. good luck coach, it's going to be a tough off season!!

^ Brooks didn't get results/made a mistake on his OC. However, the first few years his team and coaching didn't embarrass the fans. We lost to Ohio. However, the halftime studio guys weren't snickering at us week after week.

You don't have to be drinking Kool aid to not act like you guys are acting. Things aren't perfect but you are a UK football fan and acting like UK basketball fans! Jesus Christ get a grip.

I guess you guys want Stoops fired today and all his recruits left here for someone else(of which not one person has a clue who to replace him with).

I posted somewhere else last night that youth is no excuse for the way we are playing, but youth is good enough to keep Stoops one more year at least making his contract irrelevant right now.

I don't believe in scapegoats but Dawson should be out. We didn't have these same issues last year with a ST coach and Neal Brown. I still like Elliot and Stoops but the rest of staff has got to step up.

Anyone who thinks stoops is happy about this is just unaware. He has some tough decisions to make but if he makes them I really think we still win the next two and go to a bowl.

We fire stoops now..not another decent coach will even think about UK....and as someone else said, better job openings for coaches now..we wouldnt beable to get a highschool coach now...have to stick it out with stoops at least 1-2 more years so we can make a decent hire

Not only had he never been a head coach, he still had not proven anything on the field at the time of the extension. The restructured contract came a s a result of his recruiting prowess, not demonstrated performance on the sidelines as a head coach.

The reason is simple and his informed SUPPORTS know the truth.

The SEC brings us enough pie in football so they don't have to put a winning product on the field. It's a basketball school, and basketball is cheap. We ride the coat tails of Adolph Rupp, and accept the checks from the conference for football. They make millions, the fans get stiffed in the end.

Not my money. I will watch, but I will not donate nor attend a single game until I believe I see the administration take football serious.

Only an idiot thinks Stoops should be out this year.

The problem some of us are having is our consistency in screwing around with Barnhart hires. If our celling under him is Brooks, it's time to make a move. It's at least time to start applying the pressure for his removal.

We've heard it all. Kentucky isn't in a position to win because:

1. The state.

the problem - West Virgina, Arkansas, and mid major teams will far less recourses all over.

2. The conference

the problem - Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, and Arkansas

3. Money

the problem - Kentucky is a lifetime member and receives huge portions of the revenue. We have the money to pay the money to bring in winners.

When our administration wants to win, we will. The fans need to finally apply the correct pressure. Stop attending the games. 12,000 in attendance for 2 years and I GUARANTEE the problem is corrected fast. The fans allow this crap with top 25 attendance for mediocre results. The smarter business decision from our administrations standpoint, with our fans, is to stay right where we are.

And our football fan base just cant get enough.

Where is your wallet? No way. We might beat Charlotte but you're kidding yourself if you think we're going to beat Louisville. Louisville will be about 6 to 8 point favorites, and will cover that easily as Towles finishes out his career. This team and coaching staff are awful.

Say Mitch fires Stoops. Have you seen how many open jobs there are now? And what coach would come here if the last two coached were fired after three years?

Only rationale fans know this... Most knee-jerk reacting fans on here don't believe this. They think GOOD coaches can't wait for this opportunity!

What metrics are you using to say Mitch is the best AD? The sport that brings in the most money has been a complete failure under him. Hired the worse coach in UK basketball history.

I hope you can write my annual evaluation

Raised the most money by far, had the biggest Commonwealth expansion by far, built the Joe Craft Center, the new basketball dorm including over $300 million in new facilities, brought in the coach that made UK the "it" program, won a basketabll title, and will have a generation of NBA all-stars, new facilities in nearly every other minor sport, given money back to the university including nearly 100% supporting the new science building, developed the K-fund, has actually kept up with salaries of other SEC programs, oversaw 5 straight bowl appearances (never had more than 3 previously), made the UK women's basketball team a top 15 team in the nation, signed won of the best athletic apparel deals in the nation, 3 straight Director's Cup top 25 (had never been done once before in history), haven't seen a hint of NCAA issues, annually have some of the best GPAs in the conference, chairman of the NCAA oversight committee, has overseen many of his coworkers become other ADs,

Feel free to post the resume of anyone that can top that.
