Marketing ideas for handmade State jewelry?

Longtime lurker here. I've just started making handmade, artisan jewelry and am kicking off my business with handmade earrings and bracelets made from maroon and white freshwater pearls with antiqued brass paw charms. I've gotten positive feedback and good initial sells from State fans I've showed them to in person.

I've seen people post t-shirt designs and such on the board and have read a few ideas here for marketing. Anyone have tips for reaching buyers? I put a facebook product page up this week but would like suggestions for other ways of reaching prospective buyers.

We got involved with the Mississippi Market this year and had great success. It's an event sponsored by the Mississippi development Authority. Go online and look at their website. They do a lot to support small Artisan type businesses. They can help you find shows to get into.

Take some to the Junction next weekend, set up a tent, and...

sell a few. If they're eye-catching, girls will be asking where the others got them, and you can get your name/product/website to lots of passers-by in a short time period.

Or just post again here the day before Christmas, and most of these slackers will be looking for last minute gift ideas. /me included

Thanks for the ideas! Lawdawg, I'm planning to take some to the Junction for the LSU game. I took some for Alcorn State but didn't do very well. Most of our group had already purchased and there wasn't a lot of traffic through our tents ...think because it was hot as hell and people didn't circulate a lot.

1. Etsy.com. My mom owns a sewing company and does pretty well on there. It's like an amazon.com/ebay.com for homemade things. Costs money but it's pennies. Check it out.

2. Pimp your stuff out to one or all of the hundreds of boutiques in Starkville on Main Street. There was a guy I graduated from State with who made those parachute cord bracelets and he got Reed's to sell them out the cash wrap for him. You'd have to first get them to ok it but then you'd have to buy a little rod iron display or whatever and then you'd have to come up with a little sign.... THEN you'd have to give the boutique a little on the side for each purchase. This might be worth it because you'd see the highest percentage of sales, but it'll come at a cost. To get your name out there you could start a twitter and get each boutique to retweet you offering a free piece of jewelry to the "Xth" person who retweets your message. Starkville might be 100 years behind the rest of the modern world but that town loves Twitter. Facebook is for old people now.
