Similar things happen every weekend in youth sports with time limits + runs/points allowed, run/point differential and all that going into tournament seedings. You see coaches try to run out the clock to manage seedings vs trying to get 3 quick outs to give their team another at bat to try to win the game. Not to the level of this case obviously, but it happens all the time.
The MAIS is the travel ball of high school sports. Same mentality exists.

PCS stepping up and saying "The MAIS is incompetent" is close to what we need. We need one of the Big 4 to lead the charge.

PCS is currently 7-3 (7-2 in state) and is went 3-1 in their region. They are hosting Jefferson County in a playoff game Friday night. They did fine making the jump to the MHSAA.

One problem is that small schools can’t always rely on maintaining a stable student population of a niche size…
But if tri county wants to take that risk why is 615 upset about it?

Why would anyone be upset about it? It’s their business and they no one elses’s who they accept or don’t.

Big 4 schools want to be the best in Mississippi. They want to beat the other three at all cost so they are considered best in MS. They want their kids to go to State or Ole Miss (which is fine). Its not uncommon to see kids from these schools go to JUCO.
The big 4 in Jxn aren't even close to the level of the top private schools in Memphis or Nashville. The only school in MS that would come close is Saint Andrews. Prep would be next, but it is a long way off.

I didn't realize the disparity until I visited the private schools in Memphis during a Lacrosse Tournament.

And they mostly do not realize it.

St. Andrew's has its own issues. They do well academically but are way behind athletically and facilities.

I would argue being "behind" on athletics and facilities is an indication of them not having issues, or at least having fewer issues.

Outside of baseball, how many home grown athletes have JA and Prep and MRA actually put into big time college sports? Before recruiting really ramped up, at any one time you'd basically have one contributor in football on a power 5 football team and often not even that in P5 basketball.

St. Andrews kids may be weird as ****, but the parents there are at least focused on the things they have a comparative advantage at. It's somewhat laughable to see how much money the big 4 are willing to spend on athletics. And they're arguably not as bad as a lot of the other private schools, who can barely pay their teachers and have classes in a glorified metal building, but find money to pay for relatively nice athletics facilities.

From my understanding, Brookhaven just laid down and lost to Centreville and didn't look like they had any interest in winning. Centreville probably wins that game anyway, but not by 40 points.

If Marshall wanted to throw the game, they did it in the most egregious way possible.

Brookhaven plays in 4A Division III. If they would have won, they would have been in Division II with Starkville Academy, Parklane, etc. Instead they get Simpson, Pillow, Silliman

4A Division I created a different problem - where teams messed with seeding. It was always meant to be MRA, Hartfield, Prep and JA. Here's how the season went:

Hartfield went 5-5 and was 0-3 against MRA, Prep and JA, losing by 28, 21 and 19 points respectively
Prep was 7-4 and went 1-2, beating Hartfield by 21 and losing to JA by 9 and MRA by 28.
JA went 9-1 and went 2-1, beating Hartfield by 19, Prep by 9 and lost to MRA by 11
MRA went 9-1 (loss was Out of State) and went 3-0, beating Hartfield by 28, JA by 11 and Prep by 28.

If you don't know anything about anything, you would seed these teams for a playoff: 1. MRA, 2. JA, 3. Prep, 4. Hartfield

The actual seeding and matchups.

4. JA at 1. MRA
3. Prep at 2. Hartfield
That is ****** up.

Yeah, the new athletic facility at Briarcrest is pretty amazing (see here) and MUS is about to do a $200 million reno of their entire campus!

Where does St. Andrews have bad facilities? Their basketball gym is top notch. Football is just as nice as MRA or Hartfield. Baseball is a nice field. From what I see, it's that St. Andrews doesn't play the recruiting game as hard or take sports as one of their priorities.

I was comparing them to the Tennessee schools. Sorry.
