[QUOTE="WVUDisciples, post: 129448998, member: 1721798"] Our state needs a solid D1 program for those who cannot go to wvu. There are a lot of kids down here who commute to Huntington due to family necessities. Good sporting programs increase enrollment, give a better overall experience for their campus, encourages participation in things like the band, dance teams, student government, other non-rev sports (especially sports for females) that need football and basketball to fund them and keep them sustainable. I'm a wvu guy first, but more West Virginia kids are playing D1 ball at MU at their level of athletic conferences as opposed to wvu's level. One game against MU is better than Louisiana Monroe. The players at wvu have commented this week that it's a fun atmosphere. It's a fun game to watch in charleston, both sets of fans, makes for good talks at work and stimulates interest in both sporting programs. I've had more people talk to me about wvu basketball this week than any other week since we played Kentucky last year. It's good publicity. It sells papers. Hotels, restaurants , businesses in charleston get a nice boost. Some of these reasons are stronger than others but all of them have some merit. Wvu's basketball program (and Big 12 gauntlet schedule) is strong enough to handle one MU game in charleston to help the local economy and our little brother's athletic program. Merry Christmas.
