Great hire. I watched him two times in High School and he was one heck of a football player. He is smart in that he took a Head Coaching job early in his career at a place many would find as a no win situation. Well, he boosted that program, and they had some success after he got things going. He's going to be a great one by the time his career is over. One thing of concern for Martinsville and any program is holding on to a coach that has immediate success, such as Martin recently.
Richlands certainly has been happy with their Giles product and with Mance at Richlands admitting that he's not coaching much longer, don't be surprised if Richlands were to try and get him. You never know. What if Martinsville goes to the state semis or gets to game 3 in the playoffs this year and loses, then plays for a state title the next year and Mance retires. At that point, you have a coach still under age 30 that can obviously flat out coach, and he has a good 30-35 years left in him. Not only Richlands, but many could come calling. But, just because teams come calling still doesn't automatically mean he will leave. But, I think Martinsville will not miss a beat with him and they continue their upward trend in football, and try to get back to that elite level like they were many years ago in the 70s to mid 80s.
