Penn State's Kraft really screwed this thing up big time, he should have waited till the season was over. No good coach in college is going to touch that job, but they may get an assistant coach in the NFL to take the job if they are willing to pay enough, it's toxic in happy valley right now. I don't know how they are even going to field a decent bowl team for what ever bowl they are invited to play in, we just caught them at the wrong time.

Looks like they’re getting a guy who has been rumored to have been considered for NFL jobs. We’ll see. IF I was them I would be worried about retaining players. First thing he HAS to do is convince their interim to stay on. He has cred with putting players in the NFL From ISU.

My best friend at work is a ISU alum and he said a week ago that eventually they were going to work their way around to Campbell. He seems ambivalent about it and we both agree he would be walking into a dumpster fire. But, at this point anyone who takes that job is walking into a real mess. Hey, why don't they just hire Bill O'Brien back?

Is anyone sure psu is actually trying to hire these guys? Or is it “according to sources”?

If they really are scrambling now then they are poorly run.

Maybe they have their guy but he’s finishing a coordinator job in nfl?

I think they’ve tried to hire several but kicked the tires on multiple other guys.

O’Brien burned those bridges. IF you’re Campbell you rake the job because they’ll probably guarantee you north of 60 Million and they’re loaded with talent you couldn’t get at ISU. The biggest concern is this last missed recruiting class. They signed 2 guys.

PSU is a great job.. Moronic AD who could not have handled this worse, and as such it has affected who they can realistically get, but a great job nonetheless. But if I were a PSU fan, this hire wouldn't exactly do it for me.

That's wild. Even our recruiting class is 5x that :D.

The recruiting class is not that big of an issue. If the new coach can keep most of what they have, plus bring his own guys and hit the portal, they will be fine.

People thought that after Sandusky raped all those kids for 30 years that PSU would "Never Recover" but it turns out it basically took like one season. The ones that never recovered were the victims.

are we sure Rhule isn't still in the mix? he was afterall a leading choice, given the circumstances I can see them paying that new buy out number... PSU fans will be pissed but they've been pissed since this all went down...

say what you want about his coaching this year, but out of everyone available he's the only one that could probably go in there and talk all the remaining players into staying... especially if he kept Terry Smith on board

If it truly were a great job, Brohm, Key, or any number of other would be all over the job. The truth is, your sitting squarely behind Michigan, OSU, Oregon and possibly USC as the top venue for 5 star talent. The fan base is as crazy as ours. If they are down to Campbell, they might as well hire Ruhle at this point.

But is any of this official? Or just click bait articles?

Been wondering the same. I can't imagine it's been botched this bad. I mean, this is really really bad if they really don't have their guy yet. Common sense would tell you their guy is hired and is either in the playoffs and/or a conference championship or in the NFL and all this other stuff is just "reports" and speculation, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Man, I hate to be that guy but this didn't feel right so I had to look it up. Ferentz is 14-12 all time against the Clones. Campbell is 3-6 vs Iowa. The Hawkeyes are just never quite as bad as we want them to be.
14-12 vs ISU is horrible.

And I think isu has dominated as of late.

Iowa State won the last two by 4 points total. You said ISU owns Iowa. They don't. The target is moving so fast I can't keep up. The truth is they are two very similar programs who play the same kind of boring football and they beat the snot of each other annually in what is typically a low scoring coin flip game. Campbell is basically a Ferentz clone (no pun intended) and I can't believe PSU would sign up for that. I do agree that Iowa will probably be happy if Campbell leaves because ISU will probably bring in some guy that wants to throw it around and score points in the Big 12 and Ferentz will eat that for breakfast.

Good post until the last eight words. That is not why we lost

It is not my target, it is iowa fans, they think they should never lose to isu. iowa is supposed to be the flagship school with a "HOF" coach and they are getting beat by one of the historically worst programs in CFB.

Bill OBrien did an amazing job holding that thing together.

Even under the new contract his buyout is what 15 million? I'll even throw in a partly used Dylan Raiola. To sweeten the deal.

I'm not sure of that... have you seen how Matt looks lately? Every clip I've seen of him the last couple of weeks he looks very beaten down.

Rhule would have it so much easier at PSU. His wife runs a hair dresser business (is this correct?). That's easy to move to another place. That would not hold me back from making the move, but until PSU hires a coach, I still think Rhule is a possibility. All it would take is one of many big PSU boosters to write that buyout check.

Getting beat by a really bad Colorado team when you are ranked #22 will do that to you.

For the entire circus and tomfoolery that has surrounded this coaching search for Penn State, it really feels like they settled with their ‘friend zoned’ classmate so they didn’t go to prom alone.

If Rhule was really the guy Penn State wanted, the extra $10 million added to his buyout wouldn't have even been a speed bump. That was window dressing to make his extension look defensible.
