the problem is two-fold: 1. the philosophy calls for a running qb to shoulder some the the load and keep the clock moving to shorten the game. 2. this particular running QB is an absolutely terrible passer so once the team falls behind and needs to throw the game is over, MSU gifting us the one game after an 18 point lead notwithstanding. Recall the game winning drive we didn’t pass one single time. Lucky we didn’t have to against that lousy team (which was beating us soundly for 3 quarters).

The philosophy might work with any of 250 QB1s and backups across the country against most teams but it was bound to fail with our QB in the Big10. HC gave it a try this year but needs a better passing QB if he wants to be competitive against average-to-good teams.

No FBS program would ever offer Wimsatt if he entered the Portal; which I don’t he should or will.
He might get some offers from lower tier FCS teams perhaps.
Did Sitkowski get picked up by Illinois?
Some team would pick up Gavin. There would not be a bidding war though.

It wouldn't be smart for Gavin to transfer right now and we have to go out and bring in competition. Here's the reality, If Gavin wants the chance to start next year for a P5 football program he's staying at Rutgers. No P5 program is picking up a transfer who ranked 106 out of 109 eligible D1 QB's in Passing efficiency and had 9 TD/8 Int's in 12 games to be their next starter.

At the same time we HAVE to be better next year and I'm not convince Shephard is there yet or that Simon ever will be. Spare me the NIL nonsense that there won't be a QB available for us who wouldn't JUMP at the opportunity to possibly start for a Big 10 program, I understand the NIL thing but realize there's only so many starting QB jobs in the country, let alone at a P5 school. Now that's not to say we'll be Oklahoma and be able to get Jalen Hurts from Alabama, but there's DEFINITELY going to be a guy we can bring in if nothing else to provide real competition for Gavin and hopefully form a competitive qb room and camp to make him a better player. Tom Brady will be the first to admit he would never be the QB he was without having Drew Henson at Michigan to push him

Millen also remarked how open that Dremel was downfield (he was) but added that Wimsatt "didn't see him."
Cant send 5' 9" guys long.
He's a decent slot WR in the middle where GW likes to throw.
Alas even Dremel and Washington are gone I believe
What hero QBs do people think are going to transfer when so many positions are vacant or underwhelming?
QBs want blocking and glue-handed WRs that snatch balls like frogs catching flies
Manute Bol could have been running the route. Wimsatt didn’t even look. Never does

Wimsatt probably could hit a wide open five yard pass before the RU coaches got a hold of him. Surace will be airmailing passes over the heads of wide open receivers after a few practices.
Stop. That’s a moronic take. He was Wildly inaccurate in HS as well. It was also discussed at the Elite 11

Strongly dislike Millen. The guy is a Penn State apologiest. He did mention a few things that I agree but the guy is a complete tool who I normally mute when the game is on. Just an unlikeable guy due to his commentary and what seems to be arrogance.

GW accuracy is poor for a D1 football player. Multiple missed open WRs throughout the game, which stopped momentum. Not sure how can accuracy be improved but if there's a way the coaches have to focus on it. If he doesn't improve his accuracy and his consistency by early to mid next season I can see us going with another QB but crossing my fingers that this is not the case since GW has other great tools, plus we have invested a lot on him and he know the playbook well.

I remember reading an article where Kirk mentioned the most important characteristics of a QB is accuracy. This lack of accuracy and consistency is probably impacting his play calling, making it more vanilla and predictable. If GW doesn't improve and our other QB is more accurate I can see us moving with the freshman.

Solution to what? Didn't I lay into his game all before that?

Would throwing more help win games like this? no. He's not capable. But, yeah.. I think him throwing more might improve HIM and improve the run game.

AND,, get this,, I think if he threw a lot more with spread offense he could run more... and we'd arrive at a decision that he is NOT a QB a whole hell of a lot sooner.

We tried running more and not letting him throw.. where did that get us?

How's he going to learn to see the field if he is handing off or following teh RB running it himself all the time? Compare that to those pocket passers who seem to rarely handoff and they use the short passing game as their running game.. like so many NFL teams.

The guy throws a long ball... but we don't let him do it enough. Like in 2nd and short.. not that we see that often. We just run it for teh first. But he's like that old joke about the gold bet where a guy shows up with a gorilla for a partner who drives the ball 500 yards onto the green and the opponents settle the bet right here.. only to see the gorilla take the putter and smash teh ball another 500 yards.

He actually completed some screens today. That was amazing considering how we have failed to connect on a screen all season long. He doesn't often throw balls where receivers can make yards after catch... and on that offensive PI call we got... he was supposed to throw the ball BEHIND the LOS to Monagai.. right? That's why Kyle hugged the LOS looking outside and Gavin threw it inside and way over teh LOS... creating the offensive PI call... because.. if that ball was caught behind the LOS.. blocking downfield was fine.

So, in summary.. no.. I don't think Gavin throwing more would win games now. But maybe if he were expected to be a passing QB when he first got a start.. and we called a more balanced game that required a passing QB... we'd have determined that he needs more time on teh bench and have gone with someone else.. like Snyder.. or SImon. While Wimsatt learned.

I have called repeatedly to see Simon out there often. Is that a "solution"? Who knows? Probably not.. right? But he cannot be much worse.. right? Nothing makes any sense about how this has been handled.. not without some kind of explanation from the coaches.

So.. what I was saying was... if we have tio have him back there... spread teh field and left him throw.. let monangai be the every down back that he is.. blitx pickup.. one lanes on QB draws.. which might work if he became a passing threat. Spread the field.. let him read it while it is all spread out. This bunching up in the middle has not worked for us.

But, as I said many times now... make a change at QB. Enough already. And.. if not.. let him throw more.
I agree. As I said in another post. It’s not that I think we should throw more or less , it’s more where we are throwing and when we are throwing. The offense is too predictable to where and when. The excuse is we don’t have the personnel. Well the personnel is what we have. And it is the coaches job to script plays to adapt to personnel and situations. We have rolled out the same 3 plays out of the same 3 sets all season long. There has been little to no creativity and the play calling and scheme has not advanced from the first game.

Blame yes, in a way. Inability to complete easy passes against a defense only focused on stopping the run to keep MD’s O on the sideline.
